the BFEE's mantra has always been 'dead men tell no stories'.

and you know saddams got a few stories to tell about his relationship with the BFEE.

1. Because they weren't alone
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 08:34 AM by Kamika
They caught him with a bunch of kurd soldiers.. no way the kurds would have kept their mouth shut.. And I doubt the normal US soldiers would have aswell.

Ofcourse he might "suicide" in arrest.. but since this isn't the tinfoil tread i'll calm down :)

the kurds---who actually have been directly wronged by saddam---are more humane than the US

4. First they want to parade
him around like their trophy, then they will execute him like mighty hunters. Nothing he says will ever get out of the room he will be in, nothing.

9. The Am seem to like to shame these people.
That can be good and bad. Every time we do that it seems to turn Arabs off on America even if the person is bad.I never felt that shame was a good way to go. I never used it with my children either. I am not sure why it is so bad but I feel it is.Maybe someone understand that type of treatment better than I could go into it.

14. It will be good
for the people that buy into the thought that we are the good guys no matter what we do. For anyone who dislikes that kind of behavior it will look increasingly worse as they gloat over it. Bad guy but he does not play into any of the reasons they gave us for going there. In my mind it will make them look even more petty and more inhumane.

5. neocon mentality vs. old guard mentality
The old guard knows how to keep up at least an appearance of abiding by international law. Neocons have more of a bully mentality, and wish to parade around their symbols. Recall the photos of orange-clad prisoners at Guantanamo.

7. Because the Kurds let the cat out the bag
and informed the Iranian News as fast as they could.

Keep in mind, the first report of Saddam's capture came out of Iran not the Pentagon.

10. Probably the very real need to convince the Iraqi people that it's him.

Humiliating him with footage and pictures are probably seen as more effective. No real chance of martyrdom now, captured without incident, he didnt "fight to the death" as he encouraged other Iraqis to do.

11. After folks didn't believe that Uday Qusay were dead...
I'm sure that they wanted folks to see that it is him. And they wanted intelligence.

I know that folks might find this hard to believe but our troops are pretty professional for the most part and understand the job they have to do.

Let's not let our hate for Bush cloud the fact that we've got some pretty good troops over there risking their lives.

12. So they could spread the propaganda photos
of Saddam, looking resigned, being checked out, like a vet checks a dog:

Someone being interviewed on Faux News (I don't know who -- he had a British accent, but that's all I coult tell) called those photos Shakespearian, and compared Saddam to King Lear. He actually had a good point.

17. They just set up tribunals to try former Ba'athists last week...
Prague, 11 December 2003 (RFE/RL) -- The U.S.-appointed Iraqi Governing Council this week set up a special tribunal to try former members of the Iraqi Ba'athist regime for crimes against humanity.

The creation of the tribunal, which will be staffed and led by Iraqi nationals, resulted from months of work. It will take many more months before the first trials actually start in Baghdad.

Iraqi Governing Council president Abd al-Aziz al-Hakim, in announcing the tribunal yesterday, said it was a historic achievement.

"This court will try cases of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from 17 July 1968 till 1 May 2003," al-Hakim said.
