3. Yeah, but how great was Nadine Strossen? |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-19-03 06:51 PM by Robb
ACLU prez? She kicked ASS!
On edit: What a worthless poll! Ms. Strossen's whole point was for the ACLU and the Supreme Court, Santa isn't exclusively a religious theme. Jesus, in a manger, is.
Once again, CNN misses/skips/distorts the point. :eyes:

4. I have a better idea for a poll question |
|
"When you think about it, isn't Christmas really just a pathetic joke?"
100% yes. Its not about Jesus, its not about Christianity. Its about marketing, being a good consumer, and its about conservatives treating strangers as though they were human beings for one or two weeks out of the year. Its the only time a conservative will actually do something kind for anyone else. But otherwise, Christmas is just a sham. Presents, presents, presents, lights, tree, and, oh yeah, some "Jesus" guy...

He was going to have a "corporate criminals scorecard" tonight. Steve Forbes to do it? I figured it would be only indicted criminals or obviously failed CEO's and execs of bankrupt companies, not the issues you're talking about. I generally like him. He does speak up sometimes. His polls are almost always worthless pieces of s***, usually slanting questions or having a hidden agenda, like here...the "Christian nation" guff.

I dont remember the last time a Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, or anyone of any faith other then Christianity celebrating Christmas. Thats easily one of the dumbest questions I've heard in some time.
Sure, Christmas isn't REALLY about Jesus anymore. But, its still a Christian holiday.
Next topic.

Christianity has done a huge amount of harm to mankind. If they just told us of good things Jesus said I would say good but they practice hatred and discrimination. You want Christianity to be mixed with public school and I say it is more harmful than good. People see things differently sometimes. Most evil has been done in the name of religion and I think our kids coulkd do without it. If you wish for your kids to be indoctrinated in a religion that is fine but do it in private.

20. Um. . . Bah, humbug to you, too. Santa leave coal in your stocking? |

Not enough presents under the tree with your name on them?
But seriously, at DU, people frequently point out how Jesus wasn't really born in December, and how the early Church incorporated all sort of pagan trappings into Christmas celebrations, all of which is true.
But then we get the posts complaining that Christmas is a Christian holiday and therefore shouldn't be seen in public. TILT!
If it's borrowed so much from other religions and cultures, and even been re-made in our own times, just how Christian can Christmas be?
Christmas is NOT the heart of Christianity, not Christian's most important holiday, but it's a nice holiday that carries a message of peace. The angels sang about peace on earth when Jesus was born. When he grew up, Jesus preached about peace and love. As far as I know, every religion places value on peace and love, as do most nonbelievers. So think of it as a time to honor and focus on peace and love, a holiday celebrated by millions of people who are not fundamentalists.
