I have to wonder how much it would cost to rent and post to a Billboard on I-95 somewhere between about Fredricksburg, VA and DC,or maybe between Baltimore and DC. I picture this sign:
A picture profile of GWB. Dark suit and white background. Bright red and blue letting over the top, AWOL and then the dates to and from. Nothing more.
Now you know someone would have to notice ......

1. They wouldn't let you post it |
|
Gauran-effing-teed.
You might be lucky enough to get a media company that isn't friendly to Bush, but after a day, some crazy ass neoborg would demand it be taken down. There is no room for truth in today's media!

I'm having dinner tonight with someone who does billboards for a living. I will inquire about the process as I think it's a great idea and probably something we could do at a grassroots leve nationwide.

4. This requires immediate action! |
|
I suggest a 'Clear Channel' billboard.
On c-span yesterday (?), remote from the WSJ, the political reporter (Jane ?) said the AWOL story had been 'covered' in the 2000 campaign. Like a fish.

6. A billboard is a good idea, but am not sure about the AWOL |
|
If what you are trying to do is wake up the sleeping uncommitted people, a billboard saying AWOL will not catch their eye. These people are too busy with their own lives to care about what is happening in politics. You need to direct it more to their interests. Something like "Working More, Paid Less? Thank Bush and his Outsourcing Support"

7. Depends Who Owns The Rights |
|
could be Clear Channel or some other right-wing corporation who supports GDubya - Smaller companies own the tiny billboards in places not so prominent.
The most expensive part of doing billboard advertising is the artwork production. If I remember correctly, you must rent the space for at least a month

I don't know why but somehow I got it in my mind that you could have the artwork done, the rolls printed, and the things put up for about a thousand and then that as an average the postings cost you around a hundred a month to rent. I have no idea where I got that idea, just that I have it.

10. I will too, but it will be very expensive |
|
Out here in the middle of nowhere a billboard in a good location with lights at night is around $400 per mo, plus art I think.
It's gotta be 10x that in DC.

11. Well, that begs the next question |
|
How long do you really think it would stand? I doubt very seriously that such a bill board would stand for more than 2 weeks. The real story then, at what should be of interest to the local news (which in that area is also the national news), is WHY was it removed, and that brings out the subject of the billboard itself. That's sort of how I see it.
Its a case where doing anything by the Right Wing to remove the thing is a mistake, but, think about it, at the same time they can not let it stand. They rip it down and they look like criminals. They force it down by legal action and they look bad. They force it down by economic means (blackmail) and its exposed and they are lawbreakers. But they can not let it stand because if attention is brought to it people will want to know if there was any truth behind the sign.
