10. I think the implication was that it was a politically "safe" choice... |
|
...and that taking the safe choice was lame, not that our troops are lame.

12. I used the description lame to describe time's choice. |
|
not the troops. Not that I am a huge fan of people who make a living by killing for our government. But I dont blame them, since its the conditions around them that caused them to make that decision.
Regardless, the American Soldier is a rather silly nationalistic choice for person of the year on times part. No particular aspect of the American soldier has played a significant role in the world this past year. If they had accomplished somethign great, or revoltionized something in the world, fine, but if the Iraq war is the defining point of this year, then Bush, his administration, or someone in his administration should be Person of the Year.

Most of DU is pro-troops. That's why we oppose the war - we want to keep them alive!
P.S. You spelled your location wrong in your profile - it's Ithaca, not Ithica...

If time can pick a group, so can we..
Bev, Andy, JohnGideon, RedEagle, Elorial, GregD and everyone else out there who has spent a lot of time on this very important issue that effects everyone democrat and republican alike. These folks have all done a great job of researching, spreading the word and calling lawmakers to get answers and encourage change.
The fight is far from over, but we've sure gone a long way from where we were a couple months ago.
Great job everyone

I would nominate Skinner. Maybe the whole DU team Elad, EarlG. NewYawker99 does a lot for the moral of this board. I can't think of any one poster. There are so many great ones. We have accomplushed a lot this year. That's why it should be Skinner and co.

Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 11:33 AM by grannylib
along with some huge stories about BBV and the coverup of LIHOP/MIHOP would make me really happy this Christmas!
On Edit: I thought Time's choice of our troops was a good one; I have the utmost respect and admiration for our men and women in uniform. It's not their fault that the Commander in Thief is a lying sack of shit deserter.
