The threat is "perhaps greater now than at any point" since 9/11...
Those were the words of the head of Homeland Security. Now remind me once again who said we are safer now since Saddam has been caught? Did George Bush say that? Did Joe Lieberman say that? Did all the right-wing big mouths on television say that? Were they ridiculing a certain Democrat just a day or two ago for saying America was not safer? Now, who do you believe? Who has the credibility?

<snip>
Some of the intelligence information gathered in the past few days suggests that "extremists abroad" are anticipating attacks that will rival or exceed the scope of those of Sept. 11, Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge said.

2. I think Ridge slipped up...
and he let America know how he really feels... ;) if there's another terract in the US, especially as bad as 9-11, then the public better demand Bush be kicked out of office...

4. according to Bush there should never be another high alert
isn't that what the billions of dollars and many lives was spent on?

What has bush accomplished if there is yet again another high alert? sounds like nothing.

5. Keeping America frightened
Keeping Americans frightened and feeling insecure is to this Administration's advantage. They seem able to make the appearance of making huge strides towards progress in a relatively short time concerning this "War on Terror". If they have small successes and terrorism still continues to plague us, they can woo the registered voters with the line "We have made great progress, but more still needs to be done."

Republicans suck.

6. HATE, FEAR & IGNORANCE
the real trifecta.

all they ever had...

this feels like a set-up. something HEROIC will happen. but, the net result will be that more people are afraid, more people will be directed to hate and those people will be kept ignorant about the truth of the event.

8. it is a time when good men must state the obvious
or what exactly is that quote? Somebody here has it under their posts. It's great. This is a perfect example.

The government and the media have steered SO far away from the truth, that stating the obvious sounds radical.

9. Wonder if Ridge realizes...
... that in the process of this politically-motivated diversion, he just kicked the crap out of the last five shopping days until Christmas....

Wonder if Wal-Mart will sue the Homeland Security Department?

12. Nah, sales were down anyway
Internet sales are up, but retail stores aren't doing as good as expected, only marginally better than last year's flop. This only gives them an excuse to blame terrorists if/when the figures come back dreary. Not that I think this is a conspiracy or anything.... :eyes:

13. But if the threat was high at the time of 911...
... why didn't they do anything???

That was my first thought when they started broadcasting those words here for my breakfast this morning.

14. the implications of Ridge's statement
is that invading Iraq did not make us safer, the capture of Saddam did not make us safer, and since al-qeada is still operating - Bush* left a job half done in Afghanistan to invade Iraq on the premise of WMD's which so far hasn't been found...

the implications of Ridge's statement is that Bush* failed to make us safer

17. No, no, no
"Newly" arrested terrorists will be paraded on TV, amid glowing reports of how our Glorious Leader foiled their loathsome plots against us. This will give the cons another reason to gloat that we are, indeed, safer, that the Bush Doctrine rules, and you better just shut up and be grateful.

18. every innocent man, woman, child killed by the US occupation of Iraq
swells the ranks of those who will hate us until their dying day. That makes the world less safe. Starting new, multiple blood feuds increases the chance of more terrorist attacks.

Also increasing the risk of more Sept 11- like attacks is the likelhood that eventually Rove and the puppermasters will run out of ideas. At some point, they will get desparate enough for another LIHOP/MIHOP drama to the masses to stop asking embarrassing questions and to shutdown the conduits of information coming into American homes via the internet.

I have a bit of concern for the rightful anger of peoples our foreign policy has hurt. I have major concern over the junta in the WH that sees no limit to what can be done to ensure their control.
