How do we fix "Bush Democrats"? |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-25-03 12:32 PM by cavebat2000
It seems like no matter what the who the candidate it, the Anyone but Bush party is running into a few problems with the "Bush Democrats". These people say they will vote for Bush if their candidate is not nominated. I think this could seriously undermine our chances to bring back democrats to the white house. What can we do about this?

We still need him/her. I don't care if they are from Mars, as long as they pull the Democratic lever for President. We don't have to invite them for dinner.

7. I'm not sure chasing swing voters is the key. |
|
The right wing is far-right, having all wingnuts in the cabinet right now, and they still 'win' (Yea, i know, righ).
I think theres political gold in moving to the left and going grassroots on social justice among other very beautiful things.

2. We need to get them to look at the rest of the package |
|
What the administration is doing to regulations on the environment, Medicare/Social Security, Veterans benefits for all of we veterans who were in previous wars and not thiers, Education, and all the rest of the actual "human policies" that a government should support instead of war. The list is long and disgraceful.
If foreign policy is the item, thats pretty easy. How many police/military/etc were involved just so they could do the dog and pony show in England. Look at some pictures of previous Presidents along the ropes shaking hands with the public, and how this bunch has to hide behind the bullet proof shields.

If they're gonna vote for Bush rather than any of the Dems, their either republicans or they're petulant children who think they can somehow blackmail everybody else.
To hell with 'em.

|
is either ignorant or has a reality problem.
All these people dieing on his watch should be a clue.
The secrecy of this administration should be a clue.
The Patriot Act itself should be a clue.
Re-passing rescinded sections of the Patriot Act in secret should be a clue.
Excluding Democrats from the legislative process should be a clue.
bu$h does NOT have the welfare of the American citizens in mind with his war mongering agenda.
The bu$h administration truly belongs in prison for war crimes, crimes against humanity and treason.

but what the hell is a "bush democrat"? The only thing I can think of is an idiot.
Hell, there aren't even that many 'bush republicans'!!!!! They vote by rote. I've asked hundreds of people why they they are GOP, and I've only gotten 3 square answers! People don't even know WHY they are republican, they just ARE!
So, for my .02 cents, there are no 'bush dem's'; if they call themselves that, they are nothing more than assholes!

but I will add, that a "bush dem", could also be considered anyone registered Dem, that doesn't get off their dead butts and cast a vote.
Those are the ones that REALLY tick me off.

If the nominated candidate can't pull together his own party, he or she won't pull together enough moderates to win, anyway-- much less to successfully lead the nation (while anyone would be better than Bush, we still need a candidate who can actually get things done and handle a crisis, not just one who agrees with us on key issues).
It's all up to the candidate. Leaders convince people to follow them. That's how they win. If our nominee can't convince all Democrats to follow, then there's nothing any of us can do.

You've always tried to fit me into a category someone else created and never actually listened to a damn thing I said, which may be the cause of your confusion. But I've been consistent in the attitude I stated above since post 1, which very well may have been on that very subject.

Are you implying that anybody who's unwilling to blindly take the ABB loyalty oath is a "Bush Democrat"?
The "Bush Democrats" are those who voted for Republicans in the past but, due a few disagreements with Bush, are now trying to force Conservative candidates down everyone else's throat.
ABB is a disgusting rallying cry. We used to have standards in the Democratic Party- I hope we still do!
Do "these people" really say that they will vote for Bush if "their" candidate isn't nominated or are you part of the crowd that likes to walk round saying that a vote for other than Clark or Dean is a vote for Bush?
Please clarify.

and I will vote for whichever candidate that takes the Dem nomination.
I refuse to see our country dragged down to the lowest common denominator, and the present administration stinks so bad.
I will fight to the end, and beat these bastards; I have standards.

it's time to mend some fences.
OK, so that's about as garbled as Radar was capable of, in mixing metaphors.
But, the point is, some of that is being said here in hurt because of the really ugly things said in heat of battle between supporters. There were many warnings that this could be the result of those ugly words, but.... it went unheeded.
So, yes, the time comes to mend fences. The sooner the better. It might require ~~horrors~~ recognizing that ugly things were said, apologizing, and changing the behavior that caused it.
I always thought Dems were big enough people to see when fences need mending. I guess this will be the proof of the pudding.
Kanary, who is now quit of metaphors.....

Emphasize the corruption. Billions for Halliburton to feed our soldiers rotten food. Gas shortages in Baghdad after Halliburton is paid billions to provide gas. The Replican House refused to pass an anti-profiteering measure in the $87 billion. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/153589_thomas23.html
