4. Pardon my language
but this is fucking absurd!

This kind of re-writing history bullshit is so complicit in the collective stupidity of our country.

Republicans don't want a smart America. A smart America will know what crooks they are and how terribly they've governed when given a chance.

12. Just Wondering
What's the big thrill in pumping a poll that isn't going to matter about anything? I never have understood this. There are some people in here who actually believe that winning some obscure on-line poll is somehow going to save us all, like they scored some moral victory. There are probably people like that on the other side, too, but I really thought we libs were above this type of pettiness.

50. The big deal for me is that the corporate media
accepts these types of polls as what "middle america" is thinking. Even while stating they are not "scientific" polls such as this are often used to determine slant and such.

13. This quick-poll is absurd. One can go back to the site for multiple ...
votes. If I had the inclination, I could bounce back and forth to the site and vote 1000 times; (I'm sure that's what a fistfull of Reagan gasbags are doing).

If there is no way to keep it at one vote per person, it is a fallacy to believe taht 60% of the p

But there is an easy solution for this. Let them issue a special edition dime like the state quarters. We keep FDR on the dime and they get their day in the sun for Raygun.

19. Fucking idiot conservatives...it's about "The March of Dimes." Polio!
"The profile of President Franklin D. Roosevelt was placed on the dime in 1946 to memorialize his 4 term Presidency, his fight to find a vaccine to prevent polio, and the volunteer movement epitomized by the March of Dimes. The coin is symbolic of the struggle to end polio through the "March of Dimes" campaign and the worldwide eradication of polio is expected in 2005. The FDR dime is a vehicle through which to explain what the volunteer spirit in America means, it would be tragic to lose that."

24. Now at 58-42 in Regan's favor (11:15 PM GMT)
Isn't FDR's presence on the dime in part a tribute to the March of Dimes and it's success in the war against polio, which FDR suffered from (or maybe it was something similar, according to recent reports)?

Anyway, if there is such a connection between FDR and the March of Dimes, then it would be disrespectful to all who participated in that campaign to end that disease to replace FDR on the dime.

I think instead the government should issue a new coin, called THE REGAN which represents 1/1,000,000,000,000th of the public debt. It would of course have a negative value, and owning enough of them would impoverish your children. The Treasury would send them out to every American to show how big the debt is, and remind them who started it all.

Wow, shit-face Reagan was in color yet FDR is in b&w. Speaks volumes if you look into it too much...

It's down to 57.92/42.08 in favor of Reagan. :eyes:

March of Dimes... commemoration of WW II.

Corporate fascists want Reagan because he freed them from the "evils" of regulation.

A lot of people seem to be voting, the votes keep flooding in. Could it be that the poll doesn't regulate by IP address?

Added: Supporters of the "Ronald Reagan Dime Act" said Roosevelt and his government-expanding New Deal represented decades past, while Reagan's conservative, anti-communist administration ushered in society as it exists today. Repukes speak volumes when admitting this... scary shit, that...

32. What can you say about Ronald W. St. Reagan...
That's about what his presidency was worth. 10 friggin cents. It's all about the Repukes keeping the posturing and marketing up. It's all about keeping Repukism and conservatism in the mainstream and out in front of the American sheeple. What a coup for the Repugs. Replacing a great Democratic president with one of their own lowlifes. It would just reinforce the notion that conservative Repukism is the norm and Dems are all whackos and need replacing.

There's and old wooden one holer turned over laying in the weeds and poison ivy at a favorite federal campground of mine. It should be named the Ronald Wilson Reagan shithouse. That's as far as any monument naming should go with this bad actor. Raygun is the FDR of the Repuke party. To the Repuke simple minded they actually think he ended the cold war all by himself and put the country on the road to prosperity. FDR actually led people out of poverty and desolation while Raygun swindled people into poverty and homelessness. I will not carry any coinage in my jeans with that bastard's pic engraved on it. I despise the sumbitch.

I hope this is just junior, lightweight pols behind this, I find it hard to believe that any intelligent pol dem or rebup would get behind this. I even liked Reagan but have a great respect for history and FDR's contributions are undeniable and well worthy of the permanent tribute of his likeness on the dime.

41. How Weird Is That.
I should have taken a screen shot of what I saw yesterday and last night. The numbers as they stand now are not impossible but rather improbable. Last night the numbers were about 130k RWR v 99k FDR now it's about 133k RWR v. 226k FDR. I find it hard to believe that there were around 130k votes cast in nine hours (in the middle of the night on a Holiday) and only 3k were for RWR. It just doesn't add up statistically. Someone (sinister intentions or not) has been jacking around with this poll.

42. Our fellow DUers...
... at least some of them anyway, get some type of strange enjoyment from flooding polls. It's as if they think if they can win a bunch of obscure, on-line polls they can claim some type of victory, a victory that hold no significance whatsoever. According to someone, this poll allowed people to cast more than one vote. So I guess those who perceive themselves as the downtrodden can walk away "feeling" good about, what is in reality, accomplishing nothing. So much for one man, one vote. Based upon this, I hope 2004 brings no complaining about Election 2000.

44. Ya But 130,000 Votes?
It would seem that you would have to employ mechanical means (hack, screwup by the admins or otherwise) to make it come out like that. Also based on the time Butterfly posted it only took 2 1/2 hours to to cast 30,000+ votes for FDR v. next to 0 for RWR. I also noticed you could vote more than once in this poll. What kinda amateur hour are they running at USA Today? I disagree with you about the importance of polls however. IMHO polls help to solidify and in some cases steer true public opinion using a kind of bandwagon effect. One of the few tangible things that DU does is give voice to opinions that are not normally expressed in the publics everyday media experience. Taking those opinions to polls (in a fair manner) is a good thing.

Sure. Nothings perfect.

But these on-line polls being important? No way. Case in point are people who post things like "De-FReep this poll". #1 - There's no evidence it was ever FReeped in the first place. #2 - For those who participate, it's nothing more than children at play. Unfortunatley, it's also a reflection of how immature certain elements in our party have become in many respects to believe such trivial things like this are relevant. There will be people who disagree with what I just said, which is another sign of their immaturity. Several have pointed out how our Deomcratic constitutancy has no focus. We blame our Congressmen and women for not standing up, but then we find relevance in worthless on-line polls. How do we expect our own representatives to fight for us when we make things like irrelevant on-line polls something of importance? I don't blame them. If I'm a Congressional Rep and I'm looking at my fellow party members making things that are stupid into things of importance, I'm gonna sit back and do nothing, too. We can't expect them to take us seriously.

I haven't seen anyone yet on this site who is doing anymore than just sitting around and talking about wanting change. I've seen a lot of people *claim* that they're doing things, but I have no reason to believe they're telling the truth. In fact, I have every reason to believe the opposite, that they're all talk and no action. And again, unfortunately that's become another signature of our party.

Politically, 2004 is not looking pretty for our party. It may be time clean house at the end of the year. But, I'm done on this thread.
