My 2004 Open Letter To All DUers |
|
This new year will bring us a wide range of emotions. For some, 2004 will mean that their hard work for a particular candidate will pay off with an election night victory. For some or all of us, 2004 will mean a crushing loss and disillusionment with the system. For a lot of DUers, this will be their first foray into American politics. For older DUers, it will be yet another election year and yet another battle. My wish is that we all try to not let our emotions over take our sanity. Whatever happens, the sun will rise the day after election day, and the fight will continue.
Even if we win everything, it will not mean the end of the right wing. Take it from me, I thought that 8 years of record prosperity and turning a deficit into a surplus would spell the end of the right wing. There was no way that we would elect another Reagan. Boy was I wrong. The right wing will never, ever go away. They will never admit to being wrong, and they will never stop fighting and organizing. Even if the Democrats win everything on election night, Rupert Murdoch will not pull the plug on Fox News. So, the fight and DU will go on well after election day 2004, regardless of its outcome.
DU has helped me tremendously since I came here in 2001. I learned about this site through Bartcop. I learned about Bartcop through MWO, and I went to MWO because of the Florida recount in 2000. By coming to DU, I learned more about the economy, politics, and foreign policy than I could have ever learned by watching the corporate run media. DU has helped me make better every day decisions and has given me a really good perspective about life in America.
My hope is that we all listen to and learn from one another and keep in mind that we're all working for the same result, no matter what candidate we fight for. My wish is that this year will make us stronger and more determined than ever. We better get stronger because the right wing will get stronger, no matter who wins.

for a hopeful, encouraging yet realistic look at the political landscape. Here your good post sinks to page 2 without a response while another toxic self-hating Bush-will- win-nothing-we-can-do post racks up responses up the kazoo like the troll harvest it is instead of being taken out and buried in the tundra of the icy pampas where it belongs.... Again, thanks for taking a clear honest realistic look at the fight we're in, the fight that will go on....
