Dude, Where's my country?
For Christmas, my brother, who is also an anti-* dem, got me this book by Michael Moore. I actually had seen Bowling for Columbine a month earlier on DVD. My mother is not a fan, in part because she says that he says the things he does to make money. She was also irritated because he said that the obsession with guns had to do with a lot of people working for Lockheed Martin. I think that this was a speculative remark. The job of pundits on either side is to make you think and to push the envelope. Moore does both of these things. She also said take what they say with a grain of salt. I would agree. But I will tell you that I enjoyed BFC and I also am enjoying the book, what I have read. She may write him off, but he makes some interesting points and he does a good job of pushing the envelope. She thought what he did with his Oscar speech was inappropriate. My feeling is this. * has subverted the constitution, pushed for an illegitimate war, and managed to turn the job market into a joke market. Therefore, I say the gloves are off and it's on. I know that we are worried about decorum, but what he did was bold.

2. All of a sudden making money is a bad thing?
I thought that was the only value America had left.

6. I got it as a gift too
from my sister. It's a good read. How does he find the time
to write, produce, film, appear and research? Moore's a very
talented person.

7. I'd like my dad to read that book.
He watches Fox News all the time, says he'll probably vote for Bush next year and told me this evening that there's plenty of jobs out there "if people wouldn't be so damned picky and proud." I pointed out the loss of good jobs through outsourcing overseas and he still wasn't moved. A job, any job is okay and this little paper he gets is full of opportunities. I know the one and it's got a lot of ads for vocational schools. Fine until that job you spend thousands to train for gets transplanted to Bombay, Dad. "Just get in the door of a company even if it's to sweep floors and you start moving up the ladder." He's in a time-warp where you get a good jobs and benefits with a company, stay there for decades and retire with a pat on the back and a gold watch from the boss. I probably need to buy him "Nickel and Dimed" too.

8. *lol*
He sounds like my father... and about 85% of the population in this itty bitty town that is managing to hang on because of the aerospace industry and the military installations. The other 15% work outside of those industries and know jobs are scarce.

9. Fuck Decorum.
Exactly where has it gotten us?

I gave my son a copy of "Dude, Where's My Country?" for Chri$tma$, much to his delight. He spent his holiday break devouring it.

Another malleable young mind deliberately poisoned by an Evil Parent!

10. ...
I like Michael Moore's message but I think he thinks he's the Messiah sometimes. Dude has a giant ego.

Whatever, I'm looking forward to his next movie "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Howdy Liberal Gorilla and Like Minded Friends,

I wonder if Mom or anyone else for that matter,
has ever heard the media ignored voice of our Leader?

15. So you mom says most of what Moore says is pretty much true..
It's just that what Moore says should be taken with a grain of salt - not that it's outright lies.

Her main concern seems to be that Moore makes a buck. I guess you mom is not a Republican.

16. Pundits?
Moore's a pundit...

Too bad you posted only what YOUR mother hates about Moore, instead of posting the "some interesting points" you have about Moore?

"She thought what he did with his Oscar speech was inappropriate." what did you think?

Yeah gloves off?...with who? yer Mom?

18. James Carville's new book
Am halfway through it. Called "Had Enough". Terrific read. If only we could figure a way to get this book out to swing voters. Factual, but with Carville humor; even a couple of neat recipes.
