Slumbering Americans. Stop Taking the Bush* Brand Sleeping Pills
-----
Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism: USA Patriotic Act.

-----

- The other day I asked my neighbor what he thought of the Patriot Act(s). He said that he didn't know much about it...but thought it had a nice ring to it. How could this nice, college-educated, hard working middle class man not know about the Patriot Act? He later admitted that he had 'heard' about it at some point...but hadn't taken the time to find out what it was all about. He was simply too busy: raising a family, paying the mortgage and working ten hours a day in the electronics industry.

- I'll venture a guess that he represents a good portion of America: too busy surviving to get involved in politics and dependent on news 'sound bites' for information about his government. Like my neighbor...families and work come first for most Americans.

- There are many reasons why 'most' Americans remain uninformed about their government. But two of the main reasons could be: the American media and the lack of Public Debate in Congress.

- There was little or no public debate before Congress signed on to Homeland Security Legislation, Patriot Act(s) or the Iraq War Resolution. Many representatives later admitted that they hadn't read these documents before voting. Some of this legislation was still in the process of being written when it passed in both houses.

- So the problem seems to be much deeper than sleeping Americans dependent on their government to do the 'right thing'. Our government has become self-serving and corrupt to its very core...taking the free press and public debate along with it.

- The very few real patriots left in government have been exiled, marginalized, intimidated, silenced and left out of the process. The Bush* Propaganda Machine has been so effective that public servants or concerned citizens attempting to broadcast the truth about this transparent corruption are called 'conspiracy nuts' and worse.

- How is it possible that Americans can wake from their slumber in time to make the changes necessary to return government to the people? The answer is that they can't awaken until they refuse their daily dose of sleeping pills fed to them by the Bush* government and their subservient media. Wake up. Ask questions. Demand Answers.

1. When portions of the Act are revealed
such as the thing about checking library records, people suddenly wake up and protest. If only the media weren't in Bush's pocket, maybe we'd get more information out.

2. Before the internet and sites like these it was always impossible
to know what our government was up to. Things are starting to come out about Vietnam now after all these years. 4 million civilians killed mostly on purpose. Then there's all the trouble we've caused in South America and Asia. And I spend about 2 hours a day going through sites like this, Buzzflash.com, WhatReallyHappened.com, tbrnew.or, FromThewilderness.com, and occasionally gregpalast.com and michaelmoore.com. And they still pull things I don't find out about. There are just so many of them doing "top secret" things it's hard to keep up with. And I'm single with no family to raise. Also I have a college degree and I'll tell you, it's taken years to understand some of these things our governments done to other countries because of the financial frauds involved. It's hard. We need a real international news media that can get these facts, and then others who can interpret them. You need experts that can tell you what really is being done. Most people and news people don't understand a lot of this stuff.

4. "Violence Mars Christmas Eve in Iraq"
My normal brother sent me this newspaper headline from the west coast, with the simple message, "Gee, wonder if it had anything to do with the war we started?"
This post is correct. To take it a step farther, most people could read the above headline, and not think about what it implies. Because...they are asleep.
It reminds me of the story about the giant man sleeping in the tiny apartment that had caught on fire. People were trying to figure out how to get the giant out before he burned. Then Karinina said wake the giant up, and he'll get out by himself.
