Happy Black Box New Year: Here are the BBV activism targets for Jan.
Well, the book is FINALLY at print and shipping shortly. For those of you who would like to help for some short-term projects, here's what's hot:

- Investigative work: Citizen audits to identify voting system risk points in specific counties for upcoming primary elections
- Volunteer as a poll worker in upcoming elections.
- Help with legal challenges (injunctions and candidate lawsuits)
- Work on pending legislation for the U.S. Senate, and for your state.
- Agitate for a congressional investigation of the voting industry
- Help make media contacts for coverage of each of the above.
- For computer programming enthusiasts: See if you can identify what’s in the illicit patch, rob-georgia.zip (more info: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/blackboxvotingcgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID142)

Also, you can become a Project Leader, which is like being a Mod on steroids -- you motivate and guide the other activists on the blackboxvoting.org forum for specific projects. TO FIND OUT MORE: Go to this link: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/blackboxvotingcgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID141&conf=DCConfID8

OTHER NEEDS: Black Box Voting is working on three fronts: Investigative, Legislative, and Public Awareness.

Here are the projects for January and February:
===============
Investigative:
===============
FOR THE UPCOMING PRIMARY ELECTIONS: Targeting states with primary elections in January and February, we will be doing CITIZENS AUDITS to identify the most vulnerable voting system attack points in each county. This will involve driving to county elections offices to learn the answers to a bunch of questions, then filing a report on the Citizen Audit forum at http://www.blackboxvoting.org. You will be looking for all kinds of attack points, not just touch screens. Immediately following, we will start working on public awareness to deter fraud in the attack points found in each county. For more information on the Citizen Audit investigation project, go to: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/blackboxvotingcgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID135

POLL WORKERS: Volunteer as a poll worker for upcoming elections. More info: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/blackboxvotingcgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID136

LEGAL CHALLENGES: Immediately before and right after the primary elections, we need to push lawsuits. Injunctions, to block the use of unsafe or uncertified systems, and candidate lawsuits immediately after the election, to gather proof through discovery and draw media and congressional attention to flawed systems. For more information, go here: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/blackboxvotingcgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID137&conf=DCConfID8

===============
Legislative:
===============
PENDING LEGISLATION: RedEagle has been working on recommendations to beef up the Boxer bill, and has also developed proposed legislation for Washington State. We will be posting these so that you can can use the information as a template for your state. We will be working on getting stronger legislation through congress. The Rush Holt bill, HR 2239, needs stronger audit measures, and may not get them, but the Barbara Boxer Bill, which will go through the Senate, may be strengthened enough to be a real help. Go here for information on how to help with pending legislation: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/blackboxvotingcgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID128

AGITATE FOR A CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION: We need to mobilize letter writers, callers and press for this. Go here for information on how to become involved in agitating for a congressional investigation: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/blackboxvotingcgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID139

===============
Public Awareness:
===============
MEDIA CONTACTS: I have a very comprehensive media database, from my days as a publicist. We need activists willing to send media bulletins and/or make calls to the press about the following:

- Get local press info on the citizen audits and the problems uncovered
- Get local and national press the info on citizen agitation for congressional investigations
- Get local and national press for pending legislation
- Work the press for litigation efforts

For more information, go here: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/blackboxvotingcgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID140

===============

Look out folks, here we come!

1. C'mon over to BBV.org
That's where things are happening. If you consider yourself an activist now is the time to get involved.
If we lose this battle for an honest election system is this country, we have lost the country. There is no issue more important than the BBV issue.

:bounce:

Ohio Duers........if you are not on our e-mail list but would like to be involved in your home state, please give me a PM.
Thanks,
Shirley

6. The difference between electronic voting and hanging chads is...
.... if you have a Datavote punch card, the system consistently out performs touch screens.

(Datavote is not a system associated with hanging chads. Since they could make a system that performed well, makes you wonder why they allowed the hanging chad system at all?)

Common misconception:

HAVA does not require the elimination of punch cards. With an appropriate educational effort by the county, they can keep'em.

HAVA also does not have a January 2006 deadline. It may be listed as such in places, but HAVA says, "by the first FEDERAL election of 2006." That would be- November, not January.

7. We need to keep this kicked
Help keep this on the front page for a couple of days. Many DUers are still doing party-time and may not be back until Monday. This issue is much too important and we need lots of volunteers over at BBV.org.

21. Come on People
What a way to show that democracy will not die.

Become involved in voting at some level, somewhere.

Why?

Because they WANT you to ignore it.
