Trying to get my grandmother to come back to the Democrats

She used to be one until about Reagan, than became a Republican for good. She listened to Rush all the time, but has stopped when she stopped working (Thank God), but she still watches Fox News constantly. She was the reason I was a Republican for a while, because I lived with her my senior year of HS and got daily doses of RW ideology. However, I was brought back from the Dark Side in time to vote for Gore in the 2000 election. Ever since then, I've been trying to bring her back too. I talk with her constantly, always well-armed with stuff I find on this board, and I think after three years I may have started to have some success.

I told her that a vote for Bush in '04 could be a vote to send me to war (referring to the possibility of the Special Services draft which could start up in 2005), in the process putting my wife and kids out on the street because of the loss of income, not to mention the possibility I may not come back.

It was a harsh thing to say, but I think she needed to be faced with some reality. She's the type of Republican who has no business being a Republican. She's retired, lives on Social Security, and lost pretty much all her savings when the market crashed (a big chunk of her portfolio was in MCI-Worldcom).



Also, I was wondering if anyone knows much about a insurance program called CHAMPUS (sp?) I guess it's a type of Medigap insurance she gets because her husband was in the military. I told her it looked like Medigap insurance policies were going to be banned because of the new Medicare bill, thanks to Bush, and that had her worried. She seems to think this CHAMPUS won't be affected though. Does anyone know one way or the other on that?

Champus is going to be destroyed little by little until there is nothing left. The abomination known as tricare is supposed to take over for it.
