During the 2000 Presidential campaign I sent a letter with the following questions to the 4 major candidates (Gore, Bradley, Bush & McCain).
1. What Federal Department, Bureau etc. would you eliminate? 2. What significant national problem would be outside your authority to do any thing about?
I received only 2 replies and no real answers. Bush came closest by sending a bunch of position papers. Can the members of this board come up with their own answers, or those they would most like to hear from their favorites?
AJ
PS I'm posting this the the Free Republic board as well.

Here are my answers. They are mine, not what I think any candidate would consider.
1. I wouldn't eliminate any Federal Department, but I would make it more difficult for lobbyists to have undue influence when it comes to the management/regulations of the department. I'd also stop the 'revolving door' which allows for govt. officials to go immediately to work in the industries they used to regulate, and then return to govt. when Administrations change.
2. The significant national problem that is none of the Federal Government's business is the regulation of civil unions/ marriages. That should be left to each state. (This, I believe, is also Howard Dean's position)
Please let us know what the FR people say. It will be interesting to find out if there is any consensus.

Why does everyone need more and more intelligence of the same thing?
