How plausible is a 2008 Hillary win? |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 05:46 PM by ALago1
I am an unabashed Hillary supporter and admirer. The only thing that would give me solace should we lose in 2004 is envisioning a Hillary campaign and victory in 2008.
But, does she have a decent shot at winning should she run? It would most likely be the most intense, polarizing election we would ever experience and pale in comparison to 2004. I think she could pull it off with a little luck as she would be undoubtedly assailed and smeared constantly by right-wing pundits with lies.
I would love to see the Republicans go into fits should she win and it would be the ultimate vindication if we should suffer a 2004 loss.
Do you personally think she could win?

Considering the state the U.S. will be in 2008 with chimp as president for another four years, americans will want a change.
I think they will look at the Clinton years with fondness and nostalgia.
A lot of her negatives will go down among independents I think after 8 years out of the white house.
The right will always hate her, but they hate any democrat.

God help us if Chimp gets another 4 years. But if so, Hillary will stand a great chance at winning in 2008. The GOP is already gunning for her in '06.
Plus you know the Bushies are wanting to run Jebbie :puke: in 2008.

9. Something to consider... |
|
In 2008 she will be 60 years old (i think).
Is that considered "too old" to be president? I don't want to be charged with ageism, but am just trying to be practical.

3. She can win, but she'll have to wait till 2012... |

Cause our Dem president will want to have his second term.

2012 will be her year, since the Democrats are going to win in 2004. She'll just be finishing up her second term in the Senate, so she'll have enough experience under her belt (as if she didn't before).
However, if the unthinkable should happen, I thinks she'd also have a great chance in 2008. I don't see who the Republicans would nominate (another Bush, perhaps?), and Hillary would be a very strong contender indeed.

4. she is a polarizing figure, no doubt |
|
the freepers are scared of her (I have no clue as to why). If she ran, they would try to stop her with everything they got.
Could she win? Yes. But it will be an election that could probably be even MORE competitive than 2004.

6. I'd like to see what she has to offer that others don't |

Aside from being the opposite sex I'd like a list of why she would be better.

I think Hillary can win in 2008. I don't know who she is going to run against. But I think she can beat anyone.

But if (horrors!) we have 4 more years of W, I think Hillary stands a great chance. I agree with the point made above that the people who really hate her won't vote for any Democrat. I think she'll do well among independents. She's been a good Senator and I think a lot of independents will like the idea of voting for the first female major-party nominee. With Clark as her running mate to inject some testosterone, I think she'd be a formidable candidate.
I also think that her opponent, Jebby, will have to nominate a woman to blunt the gender effect. Say, Condi Rice? As long as there's not a third-party candidate for the right wing to flock to in order to avoid voting for a ticket with an African-American woman (!), that could be an effective ploy.
So...if we don't win this time around, I think one way or another we will have a woman President or Vice President as of January 2009.

12. that would be interesting |

Would putting Condie Rice on the ticket split the African American vote if Hillary ran?
How is Rice viewed in the AA community? Is she like a traitor for being a republican?

the republican base will get excited about a pro-choice black woman on the ticket. It could split the party.

17. Anyone thought of Juliani? |
|
It seems to me Former Mayor Juliani would be a big person to look out for the Republicans -the man was a hero post- 9/11 and he would stand a good chance of winning New York State - something that never happens.
Juliani and Rice?

I don't think the bible belt would go for it. Hell, they could probably both pass for a moderate democrat in a red state.

15. She has a better chance of dying in a small plane crash or by assassin |
|
heaven forbid.
But we know how that goes.
Let's hope she stays out of small planes and that those odd fellows who used to be in the military, and requested to be trained as military police, but were trained as army medics and sent to germany instead, and then honorably discharged, don't target her for assassination, as happens so often as to make you scratch your head a little.
Like Jeffrey Dalmer and Gary Heidnik and Albert De Salvo.
