Religious bigotry in the opposition to Bush's immigration plan

Well, I've just stumbled on a major reason why part of Bush's constituency is furious about his immigration plan: the bigotry of the far right evangelicals against Catholics!

Many fundamentalists don't even consider Catholics to be Christians.

1. Not to state the obvious, but

3. I get extremely offended when someone has the gall to say

that I'm not Christian because I'm catholic. Stupidity, just plain stupidity and a desire to monopolize the message of Christ as their own. Sick, sick, sick. They ought to be ashamed of themselves but pigheaded bigotry is shameless.

4. I get that kind of nonsense all the time

My in-laws are souther baptists (who I love despite our philosophical and political differences) but they think catholics are going to hell. They haven't said anything but our 4 boys go to catholic school. None of my husbands family will sit through a mass. Not for the kids baptisms nor will they when our oldest does his first communion this spring. They DO NOT like catholics and refer to me as "those people".

5. Wow, that's terrible

they won't even go to Mass for a special day like a First Communion? My dad was in the Air Force in the '50s and ran into all kinds of anti-Catholic sentiment in the South. I can't believe it still exists. Catholics and Eastern Orthodox are older forms of Christianity. They really show their ignorance.

6. Worse than that, they came after mass when our youngest was baptized

and they weren't late enough so they were there for the last 2 minutes of mass. When everyone made the sign of the cross, they made total asses of themselves looking around like "what are they doing" and then made faces at each other. I was so embarrassed!

7. Right wing christians don't like catholics? But, they do

embrace partnerships with Jews. This is a relatively new phenonema. The way I see it, the right wing cabal needs fundamentalists for their votes. The cabal made promises to fundamentalists that fundamentalists could bring Christ and the Bible into government and that they would try to reverse (or would reverse) Roe vs Wade (in exchange for votes). The fundamentalists were told that they could have members in high places at both the civic and federal level.

So all of a sudden-overnight, Robertson, Falwell, Jones, etc. are explaining and defending their new brothers - the entire Jewish religion members, and politically the nation of Israel. Fundamentalists become the new defenders of Israel and the dissent spreaders against that other religion. Fundamentalist followers followed. They bought the logic (except for Aryan Nation and related supporters). I think I also read something a few years ago about some partnerships in Africa mining and metal-moving.

So, for some members, Catholics were still out, but Jews got in - especially with television ministers and ministers who qualify for partnerships with the cabal (on behalf, of course, of their members)and for the opportunity to appear on national and cable tv and spread the faith, plus more.

How else to explain the overnight phenonema.

8. Some insight on the fundie/Israel tie.

My GM-in-law is a pentacostal fundie and totally favors the anhilation of all palestinians in defense of Israel, but get this, she believes it's part of the apocolypse plan in that Israel will gain freedom, or something, and then they must all convert to Christianity or be killed and then Christ will return and judge the living and the dead and there will be a rapture and all sorts of other nonesence. So, essentially, they side with Israel because they believe Israel must survive in order to be CONVERTED! Does this eve make sense?

9. Yes, I guess so - as much as In understand the narrowness of

their beliefs - in other words, Falwell and Robertson don't have to work hard - you have the mystical-biblical interpretion of the second coming combined with the practicality of making sure you get what you want OVER other people - all with a vote.

That bible isn't my bible. But, if we don't watch our backs -
'that' bible will be the law of our land.
