Kittens and Bunnies and Puffy Clouds

I trust that the subject of this post is sufficiently "upbeat" and "optimistic" to satisy those subject line afficianados who want only the best in topic heading wordage.

Actually, this post is about embracing cynicism. Bush, Rush, Hanity, the freepers, the whore press, Congress, SCOTUS, all of the right-wing juggernaught that is currently in control of the thoughts of our glorious citizen/patriots have driven me to the only redoubt they have somehow fogotten. I am now a cynic. I am cynical about even the most holy icons and texts of this so-caled democracy: Lincoln, Jefferson, the constitution, and even the holy of holies the Declaration of Independence. I've discovered that if I view this sacred "stuff" as so much verbal and mental onanism the foul repubs have very little influence on what I think on what I do or with whom I do whatever it is I do.

Now - you MIGHT say that embracing such cynicism using the foul repubs schtick as a catalyst is admitting that they've won. Well Duh! They have won! The control EVERYTHING including the vast propaganda machinery that creates our current nation of zombie repub followers. What they don't control, what they can never control is my mind. If literally EVERYTHING that passes for our secular "democratic" religion is just a load of crap (that word isn't an obscentity is it?) then the crap they spew falls right into the gutter with all the rest of it.

What prompted this personal insight? I was watching, or rather my wife was watching, a PBS show on Lincoln and I was struck by the decided dirth of inspiration I felt during the reading of the Gettyburg address. I found this odd indeed because I usually got gooseflesh upon hearing it. It USED to be inspiring to me. Now it sounds like so much blather. I mean really, what did it accomplish? It supposedly re-fashioned the reason for the Civil War as a fight to end slavery and insure equality for African Americans. We all know how well that's gone. Ask Rodney King and the other police brutality victims. Ask any black person if they actually FEEL like a fully acutalized American. Yeah, the Civil War was great! It really helped a lot (can you see my eyes rolling?).

Anyway, it's all Kittens and Bunnies and Puffy Clouds from here on in. I have my mind, altered a bit to be sure, but it's still MY mind. I can still choose to be a cynic. People can bitch at me, flame me, call me a freeder, a GOP mole, engage in all manner of ad homiem attacks and you know what? It won't make me change my mind. Ha!

What WILL change my mind? One thing: Absolute, concrete EVIDENCE, that the people of this so-called country reject conservatism and its horrible spoor. That's it. One simple little thing. Think it'll happen? Think that you yourself can actually make a difference in the face of the absolute control of EVERYTHING by the foul repubs? Try pissing into a cat 5 hurricane and see how much of the stream ISN'T blown back on you.

All that's left are our minds. They can't have them. For me my newfound cynicism is my mighty shield.
