maher says dems should take advantage ...
Bill Maher, on Aaron Brown's show on CNN, just said the Dems deserve to lose, because they haven't taken public advantage of all the Republican hypocrisy of last year.

Rush & Drugs.
Bennett & Gambling.
Strom Thurmond's racism/black daughter.
George Bush in the flight suit.
Etc. Etc.

There's no area, Maher said, in which Republicans didn't "put their foot in it" last year; but, he sez, the Dems are too polite to put it all together and cry "hypocrisy" from the rooftops.

He obviously hasn't been reading DU!

1. Yeha, we've been yelling and screaming, but he's right about the so-
called Dem leadership cowering in fear.

2. But he is absolutely correct.
"He obviously hasn't been reading DU!"

How many members of DU are there?

How many voters in Wal Mart Nation?

Bill has a very good point. We forget, here cloistered in our little Bush Bash, that most people aren't paying attention. We're telling ourselves what we already know, but we're not telling the people who need to know the most...everyone else.

17. Yes...but it's up to the Dems to
tell the populace what trouble this country is in. I don't think they've capitalized on that.

5. wow! this is lame
Bennet and Gambling is a National issue where Dems can parley into the White House? Rush and drugs? Dead Strom? I can't believe anyone is really so stupid as to think the average working stiff cares about these issues. Maher must have fried his last brain cell.

6. Problem is
Most people are too busy working several jobs to pay attention to the news. And when they do, it's to hear media tell them everything is swell with Shrub in control.

8. Forget the media
Other than Faux most are on the left side. The issues are Security/Terrorism, Iraq and the economy. To win we need to explain policy on these three issues.

9. Those issues Maher is talking about
Destroy the credability of the Right, expopsing them as hypocrites; it's not to far to think at what else the Right are hypocrites about, just look at Government Spending and the size of federal government, this is their largest hypocrisy of all.

12. ??????!!!!!!!! The media's "left" except for Faux....?????!!!!!!!
The media is the very reason the Dems haven't been able to make an issue of the hypocrisy--it's a tool of the CONs.

and mainstream media has become the pits. Look how they tried to outdo each other in sensationalizing the war!

The media is complicit in this country's decay.

10. Uh, maybe that's because the Dems are a lot smarter than Bill Maher.

According to your reportage, Maher thinks the Dems should play the hypocrisy card on Rush & Drugs, Bennett & Gambling, Strom Thurmond's racism/black daughter and George Bush in the flight suit. Wrong:

• Rush & Drugs - not a member of the bush administration
• Bennett & Gambling - not a member of the bush administration
• Strom Thurmond's racism/black daughter - dead and buried
• George Bush in the flight suit - hubris, not hypocrisy

Personalities are fleeting. Policies are lasting. To the American public, these personalities evaporate with the blowing wind. Why doesn't Maher list Ken Lay? Oh, because Maher's memory is about as steeled as the average Joe.

Joe Average will forgive the biggest SOB if he feels that SOB is buttering his bread. We're just that shallow as a nation. But bush's policies are now impacting everyone. Who needs personalities with that kind of smorgasbord?

Yep, Maher is just a typical repug whose only agenda is "what works for me is what should work for everyone else." He's an uninformed enabler - a gadfly.

Our guys are better than him...so much better.

11. Was this the same Bill Maher...
whose network show was cancelled on the heels of a remark critical of the administration? I think he's pointing fingers in the wrong direction.

13. Mixed Messages
One hand, we're too "angry" (even Democrat officeholders and consultants are telling us that). On the other hand, we're too "polite". Personally, I don't think it's a matter of style. It's a matter of vision- can we offer voters a clear choice from Republican rule.

14. He's absolutely correct..........
it doesn't matter how much we scream about things here cause it goes nowhere. Our pundits are useless these days. And not just pundits. Dems just react to stuff. Instead of being out in front leading the charge, they're forced to react after the fact. I don't think they will ever learn. I'm not so sure they wanna learn even. Maybe it's harder for them to be proactive. Could it be possible that they are just lazy? Surely not.

He was talking about Dean saying that Osama deserved a trial. He brought up a great point: "We gave Herman Goering a trial!"

19. Those are non-issues
Maher has been spending too much time at the Playboy Mansion -- he's losing it. The issues that are important -- pre-emptive war, corporations running the WH, the disappearance of civil liberties, the war on the enviornment, the loss of international allies, etc. -- are what matter. Now if only our dems will take these issues to the public and fight this administration on it, we might have a chance.

I was gone from DU for 2 weeks (not by choice!) During that time, I just relied on the usual cable news and my local small-town paper. Folks, it's scary. Our message is not getting out. It's up to us to spread the word.
