Colin Powell on Nightline
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 11:53 PM by candy331
a real suck up for the President. I really think Harry Belafonte got it right much to my dismay. Before Powell signed on with Bush I respected him but now he is just a puppet on a string. Now on vigorously defending that WMDs are in Iraq, claims everything he said in speech before the security council was true. What a liar.

1. I was going to watch but after the CIA bit last night, I don't think
I can stomach another "justification" for war. Ted Kopel totally kicked ass last night IMO. He wasn't letting the CIA guy off very easy at all.

2. Powell is SUCH a liar!
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 12:02 AM by Atman
Whats up? Rove is parading out the clowns this week? Powell isn't even the slightest bit convincing! Why are they even trying to defend this crap...Ted kinda scoffed at him and commented about using twenty-year-old intelligence, but he is generally letting Powell off the hook.

On Edit...Powell's "tell"...when Ted began asking how serious was all this, and if we really have to worry about guys with dirty bombs given that they've told us they've supposedly got so many bad guys, Powell begins looking away and clearing his throat as he delivers his answer.

3. I think these people have
lied so much that they don't even know the meaning of truth. It has to be a flaw in their character deep within. Powell sits there and thinks he is lying so smoothly but the cats out the bag and he doesn't get it. Surely he doesn't need the money so what the hell is it?

6. My husband and I listened to his autobiography on tape
and found it interesting, which has made me all the more disappointed in his performance under Bush II.

I am also totally disenchanted with his son.

Powell's wife is from Birmingham, Alabama. When I think about Martin Luther King's Letter from a B'ham Jail, and then I think about Powell and his son, I want to cry. Is that what standing up to Bull Connor and the dogs and the hoses got us?

8. Defending wmd in Iraq
He pointed to Saddam gassing the Kurds.

"But with all due respect," said Koppel, "that was twenty years ago."

Powell just diverted..."But Ted, our intelligence said they had them...look, everyone thought they had them. The congress had access to the same intelligence we had. Everyone agreed."

He just convenienty left out that "everybody" based their decision on what Powell and Co. showed them. It was pathetic. Truly sad.
