Heads up: ("An End To Evil") Perle and Frum on NPR's "Fresh Air"
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 06:37 AM by G_j

Thursday:
David Frum and Richard Perle. Frum is former assistant to President Bush and a former White House speechwriter who helped coin the phrase "axis of evil." Perle is a former assistant secretary of defense under Reagan, and a member of President Bush's Defense Policy Board. The two have been influential in helping to shape foreign policy for the Bush administration. They have collaborated on the new book An End to Evil: How to Win the War on Terror.

The Next War

Doug Ireland is a New York-based media critic and commentator.

It's a helluva New Year's present: a new neocon manifesto which wants to put the United States on a course for war with three countries.

Published the day before 2004 by Random House, An End to Evil: How to Win the War on Terror bears the signature of two of Washington's most influential ideologues. Richard Perle, known as the "Prince of Darkness", helped put together the now-famous 1999 neocon manifesto (signed by Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney, among others) calling for war on Iraq. David Frum is Dubya's former speechwriter, the man who coined "axis of evil" and put it in the president's mouth.

4. Wow...The PNAC training manual, now available to YOU!
Why is it when a PNACer says "Get out of the UN" , it's a Good Thing, but if a John Bircher says it, he's crazy?

Or do most Average Murkans think the Birchers are not that crazy anymore?
They ARE right concerning Arschloch and PA and Son of PA....

5. "only as a last resort"
according to Perle...

that is to say, if the UN won't follow the PNAC in lock-step.

10. How many steps before that "Last Resort"?
Step one: "Kofi, let us do what we want to."
Kofi says "NFW!"
And now it's the "Last Resort", the UN is "unworkable".

Let PNAC take the US down the self-serving road to ruin, or we're taking our nuclear toys and going home....Well, gotta make a few stops in the ME on the way....

12. LOL!! A fellow poster told me the other day that Odessa Texas
use to be democratic until the Republicans converted the John Birch Society.

I know for a fact the John Birch Society is live and well in Alamosa Colorado.

6. Perle wants to go after the "incompetent CIA"
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 07:58 AM by Aries
He says they keep "getting it wrong" about the terrorist threat.

Not that Perle and his gang got it wrong or flat out lied about the existence of WMD, or the danger that Iraq posed to the U.S. By the way, that story is in the news today, too, from the Carnegie Endowment.

Sample quote:

"Intelligence failures in the run-up to war with Iraq and evidence that US intelligence bowed to political pressures in assessing the threat posed by Iraq undermine a critical element of the Bush administration's national security doctrine, according to a report to be published on Thursday by a Washington think-tank...."

Perle and his gang can't get facts that will conform to their paranoid worldview, so they want to replace intelligence agencies with something more on the line of a PR firm. I guess 1984 has arrived, just 20 years late.

That was truly a bizarre segment, with Juan Williams as straight man.

15. They are crazy
You're absolutely right,Aries.

They propose expanding the Patriot Act!

Pearle said that our intelligence community should be totally restructured, that there has been "firings" for "misdeeds," but not for incompetence. Translated: fire the people who disagree with us and find people who are willing to ignore the truth and lie for us!!!!

Some of his other comments about the CIA: "Begin broad institutional reforms and replace the people who are getting it wrong." "They don't understand radical Islam."

Pearle said, "The UN has nothing to offer" in fighting terrorism.

David Frum said that Bush has been "eloquent" in selling his case for fighting terrorists.
Also said: that oil makes dictators dangerous because it give them the funds to finance terrorism, that other countries disagree with the U.S.'s tactics in fighting terrorism because they "have more to lose"! "They think the danger is even greater than the U.S. does." "If we don't 'reelect' Pres. Bush, then everything will fall apart."

WTF??!!!!! These statements do not make sense.

Listening to this made me sicker--what a way to start a day!

9. They were on O'Reilly last night (Frum is just sucking up)
Frum, if you remember, was the guy who wrote the "Axis of Evil" line and then got summarily axed when his wife sent out an e-mail bragging on her husabnd. I think he is just trying to get back in the good graces of the punditriat industry of the right, not that that lets him off the hook for being a part of this lunacy. They sounded like lunatics even in the friendly confines of a FOX show.
