5. Getting back into the good graces of Houston society |
|
This is from Shelby Hodge, the Chronicle's society reporter, on December 15th:
"No longer taking a discreet table in the corner of La Griglia, former Enron CEO Ken Lay stepped into the power-lunch spotlight Friday when he invited former Mayor Bob Lanier and Elyse Lanier to join him there for a leisurely bite at a central table. No one missed the giant step forward."
The rest of the article just details the other movers & shakers lunching at La Griglia that day.

In related news, his wife's store, Jus' Stuff, is celebrating its one year anniversary. When the Lays were forced to let go of all but one of their Aspen homes, she opened the shop to sell off the left over furniture, bibelots, objects d-art, etc. Now she's adding new stuff to the inventory. It's located in the former Kennel Town building on West Gray, just a few blocks down from La Griglia.

but there's a song that asks the same question: Shadow Government
We have a shadow government that's sworn to secrecy Its business is no business of the likes of you and me Nobody knows who's in it, they've been carefully selected by partisan appointees who themselves were not elected...
They hold top level meetings at undisclosed locations to suspend the constitution and sustain the corporations Their minutes, notes and memos can't be shared, and by the way does anybody know the current whereabouts ..... of Kenneth Lay
It's national security above the public scrutiny a policy of legal coup d'etat We have a shadow government - - Imagine that
Now terrorists are evil, unpredictable and cruel It seems as if they must've gone to some assassin school... They might use nukes or boxcutters or some new anthrax strain we were developing to use on them -- they must be insane
So we have a shadow government in case of an attack They're safe in guarded compounds, there's nothing that they lack They're ready to take charge if Washington is hit with bomb or plague - does anybody out there still remember .... Alexander Haig
CHORUS
So tell me all you friends out there how could you disagree with such a handsome president with his hard-earned Yale degree With plans to crush recalcitrant regimes so far from home Aren't you reassured to know he has a plan - to replace our own
CHORUS

12. If he can make it to a second Bush term, he's home free |
|
He knows it, too. Fastow will be pardoned, as well. All KennyBoy has to do is make it past next November, and he is a free man. Rove won't let Bush interfere before that. After that, if Bush "wins," (and Diebold will see that he does), these guys are off the hook.

and his wife were discussing a plea bargain and that part of the deal may be to turn the goods in on Lay and Skilling. I hope and pray this is true.
