Ok, I am going to Blaspheme here, but... |
|
I think that Al Franken, may be the weakest link on Air America. I LOVE Unfiltered! And Randi Rocks! But Al isn't as funny as he thinks he is (IMHO). What do you all think?

He is funny, despite what you say. Randi gets on my nerves and is rude to the callers. What's more, she gets things wrong all the time. Like yesterday she said that we haven't had a draft since 1971, but it's actually only been since 1973. Furthermore, she started talking about the 101st Airborne, the 101st Cavalry and the 101st Air Cavalry in the same sentence... but the last two don't exist. That bugs me.

4. I'm convinced Randi appeals to people who wanted AAR to be |
|
pure spite. "Well the right has their loudmouthed, factually challenged firebrands who preach to the choir all day long and berate callers who disagree with them......wel WE want that too!!!"
That's fine as long as you realize its not going to win anyone over and not anything other than a large "Amen!" chorus.
All is actually using humor and sarcasm and an informed conversational style to win over the other side.
The segment where he had on that country singer Darryll Worley and the two talked about bonding during the USO tour was just great, great radio I thought.

5. I think his approach is "one step at at a time" - more moderate |
|
I read and type fast all day so I don't have the patience to sit through his staged fumbling for the right word. He's trying hard to appear non-elite, just a regular guy.
I understand his shtick, and maybe it works for some people. People who feel threatened by fast thinkers / fast talkers. Franken is slow and deliberate and he plays dumb a lot.
He tries really hard to reach out to the other side of the aisle - having conservative talkshow host G. Gordon Liddy on, and that dittohead Mark Luther who they talk to on the phone every day.
He also is very careful to make it clear he doesn't subscribe to any conspiracy theories.
So he's the most moderate voice on AAR, and he's trying hard to reach out to people who might normally listen to Rush.
Maybe that's alright. There might be a need for a "bridge" person to make people start opening their minds and questioning. We want to persuade people - not just preach to the choir.
Getting a dittohead to jump directly to LIHOP might cause mental meltdown. "One step at a time" seems to be Franken's premise. So I'm happy he's there - even though I prefer Randi Rhodes' style (just my taste).
