Well, steam, at least I think it was steam, because it didn't seem thick enough to be smoke came out of the hood of my car. I think it might be a coolant leak. I would hope it's that as opposed to the alternative.

Though, you don't really want either coming out the hood of your car because it means something is up. But it did not seem thick enough to be smoke. I think that it could be coolant.

The steam contains Ethelyene Glycol---the main ingredient of antifreeze. Even so, it's a coolant leak and needs to be taken care of ASAP.
