Do you believe in luck?
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 05:53 PM by quinnox
Sometimes it is said, "People make their own luck" and some people don't believe in luck. I am of opposite opinion, I believe in luck and am even kind of superstitious about it. For instance, sometimes I wear things commonly known to be lucky. What do you think about the concept of luck?

1. I don't believe in it
Pure randomness accounts for most of what we call "luck". I don't think any of it is statistically off the charts.

2. I don't believe it.
I think it's all a coincidence or something. IMO, I think luck is for people who don't have any hope.

4. Yes I believe in it
My many brushes with death have borne that out. Once or twice I would say is a coincidence but with more examples is unexplained. And luck seems to be the best way to put it.

But I'm not superstitious, I just say it's out of my hands.

5. Hmmm. This is good.
A good friend of mine does research into dementia, especially alzheimers. One of the stronger predictors of dementia is a belief in luck.

6. No such thing as "luck".
Good stuff happens. Bad stuff happens. Shit happens. That's life, not luck.

8. a colleague of mine once said this. . .
When asked if he believed in fate or free will he responded,
"On a bad day I believe in fate. On a good day I believe in free will." That sums it up for me. I believe in both.

9. You make your own luck.
Luck is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. If you seek to be in the right place at the right time, you will "get lucky" more than people who just sleepwalk through life.

11. I believe in it..........
Also fate.
1. Lucky to be born in the USA
2. Lucky to be born white
3. Lucky to be born into a middle class family.
4. Lucky that family happened to be good people.
5. Lucky I didn't kill myself (or others) in my teens.
And so on , so on, so on...........
Of course maybe that's all fate.
