The train left the big city along about nightfall. It traveled west to wards the setting sun. In full darkness the train passed through my home village and on past through the woodlands where just a few years before I played. There were my childhood playmates Carl and Jane and Earl and Ronnie their faces passing in the darkness.
We steamed and clackity clacked past the ravine with the bubbling brook and the hobo camp. The steam whistle screamed us through the night. In the bright morning of the next day we off loaded at the US Navy Great Lakes Training Center, my fellow recruits and I.
We were not children any more.

It is about the day/evening I caught a train to my future and left my childhood behind. It might be on the first page of a book/story I am writing.
