1. I used to bitch about KK all the time
And when they opened one here and the whole fuckin' town went nuts, I was bitchin' even more. But, ya know what, they're SOOOOOOOO damn good. As far as I'm concerned, their donuts are like any other donut EXCEPT for the glazed. Yes, it's that good.

2. Glazed!
The glazed ones are good, especially after heating.

I also like the Cream-filled glazed. In fact those are my favorites, but the regular glazed are the most popular and they're great too.

For all the other doughnuts though, you're better off at Dunkin Donuts, IMO.

5. No self respecting Democrat should touch the stuff!
:puke:
Does anyone remember the thread about donuts being the republican food of choice? Donut chains are also big time donors to the republican party.

I avoid donuts the way some of us have boycotted Walmart.

Besides they're BAD for you! They will make you fat, harden your arteries and turn you into a republican.

30. nice logic
They are franchised, so owners of individual stores can donate to whomever they please, and some are Democrats.

I have been eating KK donuts since 1970 or so, and am more left-wing and anti-Repuke than ever. Blows your theory to hell, doesn't it?

36. Uh... whatever
As ZombyWoof said, they're franchised so the owners - multiple owners - can contribute independently, and that you can say "No self respecting Democrat should touch the stuff..." I mean, where do you get that kind of horseshit from? I mean, "ooh look, I'm a Green, so I don't eat meat..." :wtf:

6. Step One toward addiction
Don't do it! it would be like that first cigarette, the first swallow of some hillbilly heroin, that first bite of a Lays Dill Pickle potato chip (am amazed by the discussion I hear on these everywhere...they are the Devil, but so good), that first super ice cold beer...you will be addicted for life!

But then again, it would not be right for me to tell you not to, since I already have....sigh...go ahead, but I told you so.

7. We used to call them "Band Donuts"
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 07:18 AM by underpants
Having grown up where there was a KK (so it was nothing new) we didn't think mcuh about them. The High School marching band used to sell them, as well as some AWESOME homemade pizzas, to raise money. Also it was common to see people selling them in the concrete median strip at stoplights-sort takes the luster off the brandname huh?

When the neon light is on they are rolling off the line HOT!!!

Oh and by the way-----Someone had a thread on here earlier this week that Krispy Kreme gives LOTS of money (almost ALL) of their campaign contributions to............................the REPUBs The Dark Side.........choke on THAT!

:bounce::evilgrin::bounce:

YEah they are good and I have had some but truth be told I prefer Dunkin Donuts.

Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 07:41 AM by supernova
:9 I love either one of those. I love the custard with the chocolate frosting on top. It's like a Boston cream pie. :9

And they must be HOT, FRESH, NOW!

I remember the KK fundraisers too: school supplies, band uniforms or trips, some of the ladies clubs stuff. LOL!

As far as republican fundraising goes. Heh. I eat KK maybe twice a year. Not much damage they can do on my couple of bucks.

edit: I've never liked Dunkin' Donuts. Too cakey and dry. I prefer the slightly puff pastry dough of KK.

EXACTLY! Why the hell do people even like DD? I have tried them in 3 states and probably 7 or 8 locations - just to make sure - and they are always, ALWAYS dry and stale! Supermarket donuts are far superior to the vastly overrated and crappy DD. Hell, I'd even eat Winchell's (a west coast chain) over DD. Yuk.

15. Is it a full fledged store where the donuts are baked on the
premises. Or are the donuts brought from a local Krispy Kreme early in the wee hours of the morning?

I say that if they are baked on the premises then buy, buy and eat some more. There is nothing as good as a HOT glazed Krispy Kreme donut.

If they are brought to the store from a local Krispy Kreme then don't bother because they are not as good. Sure you can nuke them but they still don't taste as good.

They are building a Krispy Kreme down the street from me and I so look forward to its completion.

16. If you must...
Here's the link to opensecrets.org, the ridiculously difficult to use site that informs us on who's giving and getting, how much to each party, etc. http://www.opensecrets.org/industries/contrib.asp?Ind=G2100. As you can see KK contributes 100% to the Greedy Old Pharts. I seem to recall that Dunkin Donuts does likewise.

If you gotta have a KKK donut the glazed is the only one that's any good. Most of their donuts are way way too too sweet. The glazed is entirely different cold than hot. A lot of people don't like 'em cold.

Don't start and you don't have to quit.

17. My favorite donuts ever were up in Minnesota
SuperAmerica stores (formerly 7-11's) had their own brand of donuts when I lived in the Twin Cities in the mid 90's. They were simply BOSS! Now I just don't eat donuts anymore. I got too much weight to lose and too much to live for. I settle for the occasional couple of Druid Circles cookies (oatmeal raisin) from Trader Joe's for my sweet fix now.

20. Krispy Kreme Profiteering
"But is this modern-day epidemic of obesity anybody's fault? You bet it is, just as were the scourges of alcohol, tobacco and gambling that preceded it. It's the fault of the usual profiteers who have detected yet another human frailty to exploit. Americans really do love salt, sugar, and fat." (As in Donuts)

"In Connecticut, for example, you have to be 21 to buy cigs or booze, and advertising is tightly restricted. Hmmm... Maybe you should have to be 21 to enter McDonalds, or 35 for Krispy Kreme."

and in the name of health maybe "A big tax on foods with high sugar and fat content ought to wake up some eaters."

22. They're really, really really good when they're hot...
But they use palm oil in their cooking. Palm oil doesn't digest, so it sits in your stomach and accumulates. Palm oil gives the Krispy Kreme it's extremely soft and fluffy texture.

33. Palm oil is better for you than most though
50% less fat. Lots of organic foods use it in place of vegetable or corn oil. Another reason to eat KK with less guilt.

And the excess glaze is THE POINT, PEOPLE!!! They are made like in the old days, before factories ruined donuts and made them cookie-cutter fake with too LITTLE glaze. When did we learn that over-controlled fake portions are a desirable thing?

Jeezus, America has ruined palates with it marketing and processing practices with food. Viva Excess! They are DONUTS. INDULGE.

29. ONLY hot off the belt!
Chocolate iced! BEST donuts ever. Melt in your mouth sweet and airy. Dreamy.

Anyone who disses KK donuts has been poisoned by our mediocre food culture way too long. They don't know good taste if it bites them in the ass!

If you don't buy them fresh off the belt, they are only 2 or 3 notches better than other donuts, instead of 20 or 30.

I am admittedly being true to my southern roots in my partisan defense of KK donuts.

Need a good beer to match the chocolate iced? Heineken in surprisingly good with them.
