Allergies: Has anyone else been MISERABLE this past week?
Ahh, New England in the Spring. After weeks of cool, rainy weather, a few nice days make everything bloom at once. Forecasted temperatures in the 80s should make things even worse. All the allergy medicine and eye drops in the world can't get the red out of my eyes. Today's projects are to wash all my bedding, dust thoroughly, and vacuum the cats!

How is everyone feeling? Does anyone have any miracle cures? I'd really like to be able to breathe again sometime this weekend. :-(

1. Yep.
Most of the last two weeks, my allergies have been awful down here in Atlanta. Been taking the generic Claritin available now, and it's been helpful. Hasn't fixed the problem though. :(

2. Oh, yes...for the last MONTH
it's been horrible here in south Mississippi. Amazingly, we haven't had much rain, and all the pollen is just lying there, ready to be kicked up and inhaled. Thank goodness for Claritin, Sinex, and NyQuil. A couple of years ago I finally gave in, saw a doctor, and got a shot. The relief was immediate, but I don't remember what the med. was. If things don't improve, I'm going back again Monday.

3. I was having gagging, strangling coughing fits early in the Spring
I started taking a tablespoon of local honey (tupelo honey) in my tea, and a tbsp in my oatmeal in the morning and withing 2 days all fine. North Florida is still blooming, but I cut way back to one tbsp a day and doing fine. I had consumed mass quantities of Claritin, Sudafed, benedryl, etc. to no avail.

4. mine aren't too bad yet
but my husband's are

I got a scrip for Allegra last year. It worked well for me and doesn't give you that wired, dried up feeling that over the counter stuff does.

8. Yes, but...
the doctor said it was a bronchial infection. Transitioning from outdoors back indoors causes some coughing fits something wicked.

10. Yeah, Well....
The Ohio Valley is known for causing allergies and sinus trouble.

I'll pass on any information about a Miracle Cure as soon as I discover it.

11. Yes, but I supposedly don't have allergies
After having chronic sinus problems, I went through allergy testing and was found not to be allergic to anything. After a month of antibiotics, guifenessan, and nasal spray, I was cured for a while.
This winter, I had sinus problems again and took antibiotics a couple times in which I felt better, but not completely so. Then I got a cold and everything ran out. This week, I have had headaches, uncomfortable eyes, and congestion. I don't know if it would help to see a doctor again. I cannot take over-the-counter decongestant because I have bad side effects from it. I could try Claritin to see if I am actually having a histamine reaction. I am not taking ibprofen because I have a drug test coming up and don't want to risk a false positive and thus the lower threshold test since I made the mistake of smoking a little on Monday.

12. I wish I had something good to tell you.
I work in a school, with young children. Everyone is miserable. Itching eyes, runny noses (bloody, too, because they're being picked to excess), hacking and coughing and asthma kicking up. Same thing at my home. I can tell where everyone is because of the sniffles and sneezes.

Preservative free natural tears out of the fridge seem to help some. Look in the drug store where the contact solution is stocked.

Sorry for your plight. Sorry for my own. Spring has sprung.

13. It's bad here in Phoenix also....
sinus headaches and congestion. I haven't tried Claritin, but today's the day I'll break down and buy some - Target brand though.

One thing that has helped a bit is saline nose spray.

And one of them was swollen half closed, too. I frigging hate these allergies.

I'm in Los Angeles, and it's been like this for a month- just like yours. :(
