He hid behind his dad on the first day of school. He went on his first quasi-date last week, he's 18. He chatters at home all the time and around his close friends, he's funny as hell. But around people he doesn't know really really well, quiet as a mouse. I actually think he inherited it from my dad. He and my brother are shy, nobody else in this house is.

Big day for him. He's at one of the biggest track meets in the State, scouts and everything. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Don't worry about what you are doing at your age. When I was your age, I was exactly the same as you. I was worried about having conversations with the opposite sex! I did have some male friends, but I think that most people are the same as you and me. For most of us, it takes time and experience. Don't worry about it.

Funny, but a lot of men I meet assume I'm gay (I don't wear my ring) when I'm not with my kids. I've never met a woman who assumed I was gay. Not sure what that means. I carry a purse, and wear a ponytail, so maybe it means men believe all the superficial stereotypes about what gay people are like, whereas women notice that I'm staring at them and never even notice their husbands or boyfriends.

I have no idea what 30% gay would mean, except that maybe I fit into gay stereotypes 30%. Most gay men I know don't fit into "gay" stereotypes. In fact, I think of shows like "The Birdcage" or "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy" as "Amos and Andy" for gays.
