Mate de coca, the national drink in Peru. I absolutely love the stuff-- it tastes great, the mild stimulant is much more pleasing than caffeine (something like 0.14 percent cocaine and other alkaloids normally removed during drug processing, IIRC), and it is the best cure for a "minor" hangover that I've ever encountered. You know, that fuzzy fuddled feeling the morning after-- not the raging turn off the goddam lights did anyone get the license number of that truck hangover.

I'm enjoying a cup right now. It's the best herbal tea I've ever tasted. Any other mate de coca fans on DU?

I have a large coca bush growing in a bedroom window, but I don't harvest it. I buy my mate de coca as bulk crushed leaves shipped from Peru. It's a scheduled drug-- as I understand it 120 grams of coca leaves is on a legal par with 120 grams of processed cocaine or 120 grams of heroine, which is absolutely inane, but luckily the WOD isn't taken very seriously up here. It was imported legally during the '80s, but the WOD caught up with it during the great enlightenment of the Reagan years. I understand it would make a urine test light up, but I'm unlikely to ever be tested. Still, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has to take a piss test in the near future.
