Anyone who knows me on DU knows that I absolutely adore Teresa Heinz Kerry.
Of course, I am fervently supporting her husband John Kerry for the Presidency, but because we here in Pittsburgh have a very special reverence and affection for Teresa -- nicknamed here "St Teresa" because of her generousity and good works -- when I attended the Kerry Rally in Pittsburgh Friday, I whooped and hollered even more than I would normally have done just out of my sheer bliss in envisioning Kerry in the Oval Office following the US Dark Ages 2000-2004. I had even made a special button as a tribute to her that said "Teresa for First Lady." It was thrilling to hear Kerry speak, but I kept looking at Teresa and thinking, "She's special, a special soul" and feeling fortunate to be in her presence (anyone who knows the Sanskrit term "darshan" will know exactly what I mean.).
It was crowded, and during the main event, I did not have a good view, but enjoyed myself none the less. But afterwards, as a lark, I approached the podium, where Kerry was close by signing autographs. Although I did not have the honor of meeting him, to my utter astonishment, THK approached me and allowed me to snap this photo.
I managed to tell her, awkwardly, how much we love her in Pittsburgh and how proud we are of her, and how I was awaiting the days ahead, when we would see her become one of the great First Ladies of American history.
Okay -- a great rally, lots of fun, and meeting someone I regard as something of a Boddhisattva -- that would have been enough. I would remember it the rest of my life as a happy day.
But when I got home, I received astonishing news: I won a friggin' computer and 24" flat screen monitor in a contest sponsored by a graphic arts company. I figured it HAD to be a scam, but I checked it out with FTC Fraud and it is legitimate. I have never won anything in a contest, nor did I ever expect to. And then -- this?
Hmm -- same day I meet Teresa Heinz Kerry, I win my dream computer and monitor, after never having won anything in my life? Coincidence?
I think there's something to this "St Teresa" legend...because my winning my frigging dream computer in a contest is a miracle.
Supernatural and unbelieveably lucky stuff and feeling optimistic about the future of our country for the first time in years aside -- a little gossip: The Heinz Boys were there too. I'd seen photos and tv appearances of them, but never in person. I had thought they were nice looking lads, but gee -- they're hotties. They have the kind of elegant sexiness that you usually only see in the men of Madrid or Milano. Yum. Yum. By the way -- they are also intelligent and articulate. But make no mistake -- we're talkin' hotties.
