oustemnow's music-buying orgy (mostly vinyl) 4/17/04 |
|
man, my ears will be busy for a while...
Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band (pervily entertaining, for an obvious Beefheart knockoff)
Led Zeppelin: Presence (an overlooked gem)
Leo Kottke: Greenhouse (getting more and more into this guitar genius; he covers Fahey's "In Christ There is no East or West on this one)
Stevie Wonder: Original Musiquarium (wall-to-wall ass-shaking with culturally conscious lyrics, what a genius this guy was/is)
The Grecian Guitars and Voices of Trio Orfeo (looks interesting, haven't had a chance to listen yet)
Saturday Night Live (featuring the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players, looks to be a series of skits)
Frank Sinatra's Greatest Hits (been needing to add this to the collection for a long time)
Elizabeth Barraclough (I know nothing about this artist, but the cover cracked me up, features the artist getting ready to make a pool shot and a word balloon coming out of her mouth stating, simply, "Hi")
Elton John: Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player (Haven't had a chance to listen to this, but after years of pooh-poohing him I'm entering a definite EJ phase)
The Kingsmen: Volume 3 (Volume THREE!??!)
The Life and Times of Country Joe and the Fish: From Haight-Ashbury to Woodstock (They're getting back together! with only one holdout whose name currently escapes me)
The Muppet Movie Original Sountrack Recording (until YOU write someting as poignant as "The Rainbow Connection, stop snickering)
Kings of Leon: Youth and Young Manhood (haven't listened yet, but it's gotten pretty much unanimous hosannas)
Total price: $23.76

1. Is Country Joe "Life and Times" a 2-record set? |
|
With lots of live stuff? Including the song "Marijuana"?
If so, I had a copy long long ago and stupidly traded it in (probably for Led Zepplin)...

2. That seems to be the one |

I haven't listened to it yet, but the description is dead-on. It's a Vanguard LP; the cover is a photo montage. There was a ton of Country Joe stuff in the used-vinyl bins, but given that I'm not all that familiar with them, this seemed like a good one to start with.
Nice DU name and sig line, by the way; until a couple of days ago my sig line was "the roar of the masses could be farts," but for some reason I was recently compelled to honor Bokonon.
