Poll question: Best Hair-Band Song!
This is my last for the nite...

Best Hair-Band Song!

Sorry, Guns & Roses, Van Halen, etc. are ineligible. They're a bit more than just hair bands...

1. Motley was cool in 1982. Looks that Kill.
Crue was cool until they went total poser on "Theatre of Pain".

6. In my opinion, GnR doesn't really qualify as a hair band
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 05:15 AM by chrisesq
No makeup, the only video that had any poofy hair was "Welcome to the Jungle" and that was probably due to marketing considering the era in which they came into their own.

Axl always had it completely straight on every thing after that debut video. Only ballad that dealt with the "I love you so much it hurts" kinda genre was still a farily heavy song at the end (Sweet Child o Mine)

Their music was much more bluesy and done in minor keys unlike the upbeat bubblegum major keys that most hairbands were playing. Very little pentatonic major and aeolian scales used in the guitar solos which is common in most pop-metal (yes I am a music nerd) Most of the GnR scales are based off of an A minor blues scales.

Duff was an old punk-rocker. Listen to the bass. Much more involved than the quarter note time that most hair-metal bands used. That and Duff used much more of the fretboard than them too.

They were all filthy. I mean dirty bastards. Looked like most of them had not had a shower in days. Tell me if Poison or Warrant could go without using some salon purchased conditioner for more than 24 hrs.

There area many more reasons, but I think I've stated my case.

7. Eh.
"Headed for a Heartbreak" would be a much better (worse?) Winger option than "Seventeen."

And I am a bit perplexed as to the exclusion of Bad English's "When I See You Smile." True, they were a bit older, didn't have as much makeup -- but that soaring ass ballad, written by the incomparable (for ass ballads) Diane Warren, deserves a spot.

10. Seventeen - Winger no contest
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 06:27 AM by Mobius
I see no Queensryche, which is disappointing, however I understand you only had 10 choices.
I chose Winger because Reb Beech, is such an underrated guitar player. One of those great players that got stuck in a hair band, because closed minds cant accept players can tear up the fretboard AND still have amazing phrasing and vibrato...sad :(
