Describe your best friend
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 01:42 PM by HEyHEY
My best friend is Chris. I've known him since we were three years old. At that age we went to preschool together and became friends. It's funny, I was young, but I still remember clearly the day I found out he only lived up the street from me. I was very excited. Then when I was five, his mom used to take care of me while my mom worked.
It's funny, he's my best friend, but growing up I bet I have had more fist fights with him than anyone.
He's a real stand-up guy, and is taking over the family concrete pumping business.
I always really repected him, and wished I was a little more like him, he's got the good sense (especially finicially) that I lack. Funniest thing about him though is that even though he's 25, and makes tons of money, he still lives at home. And why wouldn't he? He's got one of those moms that does everything for her son.
But truly he's has been looking for a place to buy for a few years. But he's overly cautious by nature and is hesitant to commit.

Your best friend?

3. My best friend, Ken...
I've known him since the first grade. We're only 3 days apart on our birthdays. Our parents said we were more like brothers than friends.

One day I went to his house and walked in (I didn't have to knock) and his mom was on the phone and said, "Hi". The person on the line must have asked who it was and she just said, "Oh, it's Will. Kenny's boyfriend." I know she meant a friend who is a boy but it just tickled me that she said that.

Kenny is a great guy who would give you the shirt off his back. He babysits for our girls when we're away on vacation. His only drawback is that he's a poor loser at video games. It's always "The game cheats" or "The joystick"...but I wouldn't trade him for anyone else.

Especially since I bit his toe. :-)

I do have a few friends that I really like. But many of them I realize I don't have that much in common with. But I continue to do things with them bk I like saying that I have more than just 2 or 3 friends.

5. I'm lucky...I have 2 best friends.
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 01:46 PM by VelmaD
One man and one woman.

I met my female best friend in the 7th grade. She had just moved to town and she walked into my 7th grade English class. The teacher had us seated alphabetically and our last names are close together so she ended up sitting next to me. I turned around to say hi and we just looked at each other and KNEW right then we were best friends. That was just over 20 years ago. She still lives not too far from me and we see each other all the time. We can sit for hours just playing on the puter and listening to music or watching a movie or baking. We may go long stretches without talking because we're so comfortable that we don't have to fill up every silence. But then one of us will look at the other and say something that no one else will understand and we'll both burst out laughing. :) I'm about the only person in her life that doesn't need or expect her to "mother" them and I think she really needs that. I don't give her the stress she gets from everyone else. And I need her because she knows everything about me and still adores me.

My guy best friend I met in college just over 14 years ago. He was dating a girl who lived in my dorm (who was roommates with a girl I went to elementary school with). Anyway, he came over to pick her up for dinner and was waiting in the TV lounge where I hung out to watch the news and Jeopardy. We were both impressed with the others knowledge of current events and trivia. It was another one of those situations where we just kind of knew we were gonna be best friends. He's more interested in politics than my female best friend - it's the abiding passion that he and I share.

What's neat about both of my best friends is that neither one of them has the least bit of jealousy about me having 2 best friends. They're very different people and my relationship with each of them is different. I adamantly refuse to say one or the other is somehow a "better" friend.

13. Don't really have one
I moved around too much to put down any roots anywhere. I don't think I've held a single address for more than three consecutive years. My life has been a story of making a few social friends, being ostracized by everyone else for lack of social life, moving, repeating process.

It probably doesn't help that I withdraw really easily when I feel I'm being ignored. Of course, when I move, I am ignored frequently because everyone else already has well-established relationships with other people.*sigh*

14. My best friend in my brother, Sean.
He's just a 18 months younger than I am, and though we've fought like cats and dogs (as all brothers will), there's no one on earth I'd rather have 'watch my back' for me; Sean's a natural comic, smart as hell and absolutely fearless, and I'd pity the poor fool who would ever try to hurt me, if he was around.

Growing up on a farm in rural Ireland, you seldom have playmates your own age, so you tend to buddy up with a sibling, and that's how it was with he and I. My Mam used to tease me about when Sean was first born, because I'd insist on being near him and, if asked, would say "He's MY brother" in a way that made it clear that I was asserting a special claim to him, over and above that of my other siblings.

:D

People let me tell you 'bout him he's so much fun

Cause he's my best friend.

19. my best friend claudia has been best friends with me since
I was six and she was five. We were a regular pair of troublemakers, lol. We had our own posse at the deaf elementary school where we were the top girls. We also had a crush on Macauley Culkin, and thought that Elijah Wood was cute. Claudia, however, had a tendency to have nosebleeds a lot so whenever she'd spend the night over at my apartment, I knew well enough to have a Kleenex box on hand, and then we'd watch Star Trek: The Next Generation with tissues plugged up her nose. Claudia and I also whined about our mothers a lot and we had the bright idea to infect ourselves with AIDS so that we could die and our mothers would cry at our funerals about how mean they were to us. We thought that blood transmission was how you got AIDS (we didn't know that you had to be infected in order to pass the virus through blood transmission) so we pricked our fingers, pressed them together, and waited to die. When nothing happened a few weeks later, we were really pissed, heh.

We were also huge Trekkie fans, and whenever I'd spend the night at her house, we would reenact the episode of TNG we just saw with cardboard boxes in her room. The cardboard boxes would represent the bridge, and I was almost always Worf. I wanted to be Captain Picard or Wesley but Claudia was too bossy and wouldn't let me do that. I hated being Worf, lol. Claudia and I also were huge bookworms. We'd trade books, and stay up late reading books. We had our own libraries and we'd make each other check out books, and have the other person pay a fine if she lost a book or didn't return it on time. Ahhh....I miss her---I'll give her a call later tonight.

21. Dale
5'10", strawberry blonde but nearly bald now, blue eyes, age 43. Sings solo in a rich baritone, but the choral director forces him into the first tenor section. Idiot. :eyes: He's a great performer. He's been my best friend for nearly ten years, but since I moved to Maryland I've seen him only twice.

He fell in love several years ago with a man who ultimately robbed him of $15,000, broke his heart, and gave him HIV. He's now with a chorus boy who tours with this show or that almost full time. Dale has held down the fort for three years, paying all expenses on their shared home, receiving no support from his partner.

My heart aches for him that he always seems to fall in love with leeches. I fear he doesn't think he's worthy of someone as strong, dependable, and loving as he is himself.

22. My best friend is (in order to protect his identity, we'll call him Tom).
He's fat and he has a big nose.

Yeah, I can say that, because he's my best friend. He calls me "skinny-fat" (on accounta my matchstick limbs and beer-belly) and says my facial har reminds him of, like, Foghat's roadie, or something.

We collect records and drink beer. He lives in Cleveland. I don't. :(

I love him, but it embarasses me to walk down the street with him.

He has gold chains on his leather jacket, and on the back are written the names "Mary" and "Mom" and "Hell's Angels."

I would gratefully appreciate it -- if you see him, tell him I'm in the park with my girlfriend; and please tell him Angela and I don't want the two dollars back, just him.

31. My best friend is a 59 year-old woman.
Her name is Rosie, and she's a dispatcher with our department. She's a widow, stands 5'4" tall and weighs about 300 pounds. Before she became a dispatcher, she was a single mother who raised 4 kids working a variety of jobs, from motel night auditor to bartender in some not-to-nice roadhouses. She has a heart that's as big as all outdoors, a wealth of common-sense based on real-life experiences (lessons learned the hard way), and her voice is so deep and gravelly that most callers mistake her for a man.

When I first came here and joined the department, I literally knew no one, and Rosie basically 'adopted' me, and did all sorts of sweet things to help me feel not quite as 'strange' and lonely; she invited me for supper, baked me a cake and took me out drinking on my birthday, was forever saying 'come here' and straightening my tie, or adjusting the angle of my hat, etc., the sorts of things a mom would do for you.

She doesn't have a prejudiced bone in her body, and accepts unconditionally my relationship with Paddy; she's actually said that what's most important in life is finding someone TO love for the rest of your life, rather than what sex they are. I've even overheard her defend me to other people, those who don't think that a gay man, or a Hispanic man, should be a law-enforcemnt officer.

She's my best buddy, and I'd do anything in the world for her, because I know she would do anything she could for me. I love her dearly.

:D

I have been blessed to have a number of great friends through my life but nothing compares to my sisters. We are the three youngest of nine children and by far the closest. I share an apartment with one of them and have since the break up of her (very bad) marriage. The other lives nearby with her husband and two children, which are like our two children as well since we have none. The three of us stuck together though the death of both parents, job loses, miscarriages. I don't know what I would have done without them.

34. Picking one best friend is difficult...
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 08:41 PM by Shanneee
I have best friends from High School, best friends from College and best friends from now. I'd have to say the last category are the most important in my life right now.

My best girlfriend is my cousin Carly. She is exactly 2 months and 30 days older than I, so we tell people we have known each other since we were negative years old. We grew up together and were inseparable until the age of 8 when she moved to a different town. Fast forward 10 years and we end up at the same college. At first it was a bit awkward because we had rarely talked in the past 10 years, but before you knew it, we were fast friends again. She is the only person in the world that I could spend a whole month with and never get sick of. She laughs at my jokes, even when they suck. She listens to my stories, even though she was probably there when it happened and she has probably heard it 3 times before. Together we could do anything. One day we are going to open up a business and call it "Crazy Cousins" or something like that. She lives 5 minutes from me, but is soon moving a half an hour away. :( She is a nurse. She loves to take foo-foo vacations, and doesn't mind when I make fun of her for not going on a REAL adventure for her vacation. She lets me smoke in her car when I am drunk. She's fairly reserved and sometimes when people meet her they think she is a snot, but in reality she just doesn't like talking to people she doesn't know. Last night we were at the bar and she called a guy I've had my eye on for months over to our table. Although I was ready to kill her at the time, today I can't help but smile. My cuzzy kicks-butt!

My other best friend is Jim. Although I don't think we've ever talked about being best friends, it just occurred to me that he *IS* my other best friend. I have only been friends with him for less than a year. We met in an unusual way and talked on the computer every night for months. He knows pretty much everything about me there is to know. Things beyond that of which I would tell my other friends. He is 23 years old and goes to school. He also works at Pizza Hut and is balding; both things of which I make fun of regularly. And he doesn't hate me for it. I love him because he is just an all around great guy. He gets along with every single person he meets. He has a special way of making people feel comfortable in his presence. He doesn't always object when I declare myself the winner of every single argument or debate. He is tall. I have never seen him wear anything besides a t-shirt or a sweatshirt. He doesn't seem to get annoyed when I act like a "girl" He listens to my aimless ramblings about the "hot new guy at work" or "this guy I met today" He doesn't just sit in the car and honk the horn impatiently, he comes to the door. Although he is horrible at returning phone calls, I feel compelled to forgive him :) Overall, I'd have to say he is just a stand up guy and I'm lucky to have him as my best friend!

I'm just lucky to have such great people in my life overall!

38. My old, probably all time best friend
We met when I was 15 and moved to Connecticut. We were kind of similar in that we were both ballsy sort of girls in the typical high school environment of wimpy wuss girls who pander to jocks. She knows all my old secrets, but few of my new ones. Life made it tough to be how it was before we were both married with kids, but we always managed to re-connect and talk. We seemed to understand each other and could just be ourselves. She moved to Florida over a year ago and it completely sucks. I miss her being closer. She was the only one who seemed to accept me as I am even though we were sometimes different.
