Destitute.
I was arguing with some dumbass buddies about hookers and of course it turned into discussing the Downtown Eastside. Long story short, my one friend tried to play the "They are paying for something they did in a past life" card.

Seriously...what kind of answer is that to the drug problem in East Van?

I've never heard a conservative wax karmatic...what a joke, anything to get outta some social responsibility.

1. "Karma" and "reincarnation" are wee bit heretical for Christian right
Don't hear a lot of conservatives discussing karma in North America. Maybe in India when discussing the "untouchables." Not here though.

4. Is it linear in time?
Or in other words, does the karmic result always come after the action, or does it sometimes come first?

7. its not linear or equal
and one cant say how karma really works...as in if you were born really poor it may not be your karma from your last life...its far more complex than payback is

6. What, isn't god punishing them for their sins?
Like he's punishing Reagan and Heston.

8. I used to work at the junction of E. Hastings and Carrall in the eastside.
I would always pass those yuppie apartments they put in in the mid-nineties, when they thought they could gentrify that part of town, kind of a Field of Dreams 'build it and they will come' thing. Of course, all that happened is that we have these half-empty fancy apartments sticking out like a sore thumb surrounded by the squalor and decay of what once was downtown Vancouver.
