Reader's Digest question - "Unforgettable Character" |
|
Does anyone remember reading Reader's Digest back in the days when they had, in every issue, "My Most Unforgettable Character," where someone wrote about, uh, the most unforgettable person in their life?
I don't subscribe anymore, now that I'm broke, but it seems that the only ones I've seen in the last couple of years were written by celebrities (there was a great one by Camryn Manheim about her big brother that I recall).
Can a non-celebrity get one published? Does anyone work for RD or know someone who does?? I have a piece that's publishable about my most unforgettable person, but am I going to have to get famous first? x(

I don't remember it specifically in RD, but I remember hearing about it. In fact, didn't Cher use that in her eulogy for Sonny? I remember how sad it was to hear her describe him as her "most unforgettable character."

People should tell each other things like that while they're alive.
My most unforgettable character is still here, and I want him to read it before he dies.

If we have any celebrities on DU who know how to get one published (since that's all I see anymore), PM me and I swear I won't give away your secret.

3. I quit reading Republican Digest years ago |
|
When they started jumping on the "Clinton Bad, Neo-Cons Good" bandwagon.

5. I like the human-interest stuff and the health investigations |

and the stories of real-life heroes. I skip the politics, so I know how you feel.

6. Try one of the following |
|
1) Pick up a copy of Readers Digest, look at the masthead (where they list all the editors and stuff like that) and see if any address is given for submissions.
2) If that fails, go to a bookstore and pick up a copy of Writers Market, which contains the submission requirements for every major magazine and a lot that you haven't heard of.
