Poll question: Am I wasting money on my Rhapsody subscription?
I pay $9.99 a month for Rhapsody, a music subscription service. For the ten bucks I have access to Rhapsody's huge library of music. I can listen to anything from my computer, and there's a small charge to download and/or burn a song to CD.

Lots of musical styles to pick from, and it appears they have thousands of artists in the library.

But can my $9.99 be better spent elsewhere?

1. I voted you were wasting your money.
But I would never have called you an idiot for it.

3. Kazaa is a pain in the ass
I never liked P2P for music sharing. It's always hit or miss, sometimes you get what you're looking for, sometimes you get CRAP.

I liked Audio Galaxy before they changed their "format" due to "legal" reasons, and I was a fan of Napster back in the day.

But, in the space of 30 seconds on Rhapsody, I just found their entire catalog of Peter Murphy, Depeche Mode, This Mortal Coil, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, AND Styx!

5. Get Kazaa Lite.
Kazaa is loaded with spyware.

I don't think it's a bad deal. But I would look into getting a program to capture the audio as a mp3. That way when you stop paying you can keep the music. On the Macintosh you can use Audio Hijak. I don't know about what to use on Windows. If you want me to look into it just ask.

Also www.emusic.com used to be cool when it was download all you want in mp3 form for 15 bucks a month. It was good if you liked indy music. Now you pay 15 for X amount of downloads per month. But, it is still cheaper then the iTunes music store and Napster.

My p2p program of choice is bittorent.

7. Yeah, I have Kazaa Lite
Mainly used to find "preview" versions of software. And if I'm really motivated, an episode or two of "Sealab 2021."

4. As a big music fan, I find all of them overpriced
I put a lot of emphasis on liner notes, photography, and artwork, so I'm particular about what I pay online. Occassionally I'll buy a song from iTunes, but single prices are too high for me to spend a lot of time there.

8. A few good ones
I use Kazaa Lite (regular Kazaa is EVIL  )

Spyware sucks.

Otherwise you could try http://search.suprnova.org/

I think it uses something called bittorent files. I haven't tried it myself, but I heard it's pretty good. It's also not centralized, has users, and can't be shut down.

9. I use WinMX
to get music off the Internet. Not all the pop ups like Kazaa has, but doesn't seem to have as much to as fast downloading but I'm OK with that. I get videos off WinMX as well. You can give it a try and see if it works well enough for you before you cancel.
