Was the last Iron Chef Thrown for Bobby Flay?
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 01:48 PM by Must_B_Free
The new current series of Iron Chef has started and the internationa cuisines are battling.

Now, Bobby Flay did have an incredible menu, but it seemed that Morimoto really moved heaven and earth with his offerings. They were all GAGA over the Japanese Style Lobster and his courses were mindblowingly creative. I recall the Hawaiian eating 3 of the fried sushi rolls, they were so good. Noone had anything bad to say about his dishes, yet there was a pan of one of Bobby Flay's.

And Kitchen Stadium was so loud the whole time, it seemed like it was a battle of nationalism - flags waving and whatnot.

I noticed the Hawaiian gave Bobby Flay a 20 and Lefleur gave Murimoto a 14! Both of these scored are somewhat unprecedented. To me, it looked like Murimoto won, but they threw the scores for Bobby Flay. In fact both my wife and I said "No Way!" when we heard the verdict, and Chairman Kaga looked visibly disturbed. My theory is that they threw it for Flay to make America look like it was Right in Iraq.

1. Isn't the whole thing a gimmick?
Like WWF... it's all staged. It has to be. At least, it really looks fake.

2. That battle was in 2001
It was supposed to be the "first battle of the 21st Century," along with the red-snapper battle (a double header).

It aired prior to 9/11:

...and, who knows? It might have been filmed during the last days of the Clinton administration.

(That's not to say it absolutely wasn't rigged -- but Iraq had nothing to do with it.)

3. I Think it was thrown, all right
that whiney ass Flay threw a tantrum when they met in NY.

Poor widdle baby's ego couldn't take another defeat.

4. I agree . . . Flay's a gasbag . . .

I thought Morimoto won that one, too . . . guess they're building up the audience for the upcoming USA vs Japan series (starts this weekend, I think) . . . in the previous battle, though, I really thought Kandagawa deserved the win . . . his dishes seemed absolutely spectacular . . .

on edit: if Bobby Flay is any indication of what's to come, it seems that the American chefs have the typical "USA all the way!" attitude that so distinguishes this country these days . . . I much prefer the attitudes of the Japanese chefs, who seem to have much more respect for their craft . . .
