9. Wanna hear an old Peace Corps story from the old Peace Corps guy?

When I was in the Peace Corps in Korea, early 70's, I worked in a district health department in TB control. One of the services offered by said health department was "family planning", including vasectomies. Well, when someone would request such a procedure, we did it on an outpatient basis, to say the least. The biggest reasonably private room in the place was the TB office, and so my co-worker's desk, and mine, became the operating table. The director of the health department would do the surgery (yes, he was a physician, & pretty damn good one, if inclined to be short-tempered). The victim - errr, patient - would be plunked down on our desks, pants off, injected with a local, then slice, open, snip, tie, stitch and done! Pull yer pants up, see you in a few days for a checkup. There was another guy in the health center trained to do vasectomies as well, the head of the family planning department. He and the center director once got into a competition to see who could do the quickest vasectomies. I think the record was something like 7 minutes, but they had been counting from injection of the local anesthetic, so they were sort of rushing things there a bit. "Are you numb yet? Not quite? Well, close enough, here we go!" Those were the days, I tell you.

but I just found that lovely feature of turning the lounge off in Latest. So, I don't have to get irritated with the influx of these self-surgery threads.... pretty great feature!

Hope I remember to turn it on when the insomniac threads come about... since I am one usually... and that's when I like to play in here.
