I had a cow, man!

On Saturday night, my first calf was born. We have four more 'in the oven'. He's a droughtmaster cross, and runs over like a dog to be patted (his Mom doesn't like this sort of behaviour at all)

I'm always amazed by how quickly they're up and about. (I don't have a farm but I've barn-sat for friends who do ...)

He was up and looking for a breast within 30 minutes of hitting the ground. It was her first, and mine, so we both had to learn on the job. The thing I learned most was 'just give her room and let nature take care of it', which translates into 'just grab some beers and hang out until you've got the photos you need'.
