I do my work and my research and get my reading done:
* Clarke's "Against All Enemies"
* Woodward's "Plan of Attack"
* Dean's "Worse Than Watergate"
..in the last week or so, and I read this fucking miserable website with all its fucking miserable doomscreamers, and my heart hurts.
I need sunshine. Fuck everyone who isn't an optimist. I don't have time for bullshit.

I asked them for websites and such for the various candidates a couple weeks ago, and still no reply. I'll try again though.

8. yeah the world is pretty much over |

Oddly it's not my bullshit that seems to be the problem. Its other people. I have my best friend that wants to die because he can no longer deal with the horrific abuse he suffered as a child. He has no insurance, so hes pretty much doomed. He told me today hes buying 50 vicodin to kill himself on wednesday and will I take 2 of his cats. He injured his wrist while doing a 16 hour concrete shift , and his boss wouldnt let him have off, so he had to quit. He is a phenominally gifted guitar player, but most likel;y noone will ever hear it. I dont have money, noone in his family has money, I have just gotten done calling them all. I can no longer do anything else. Except wait. I have the key to his apartment and plan on calling an ambulance if necessary. I am calling my own shrink tomorrow, but I dont know what she can do, but im sure she knows things I dont. The only reason Im here now is because he kicked me out because I was telling him he was being selfish, because I have told him thousands of other things that didnt work. He is quite large and was getting angry. Hes not rational, and I dont know what to do anymore. He has an IQ of 164, but intelligence to the economically disadvantaged in this society is actually a curse. Im sorry I cant write anymore.

my thoughts and prayers are with you and your friend.
i can kinda relate to this. A friend saved me more than once... and this guy is lucky to have a friend like you who cares about him.
keep in mind, to him there is seemingly no way out... hes most likley not seeing things from a logical or rational point of view as you pointed out. well, almost all situations vary, so ill stop at that. just make sure he knows thiers people who care for him.
best of luck.

Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 01:09 AM by LastKnight
youve already mentioned that youve called all his family, ect. thats pretty much all you can humanly do. dont take this out on yourself, ive seen how one person's self destructing habits can take a toll on another. Ive watched my friend decay over me and what i was trying to do to myself, she blamed herself for my problem. whatever happens its not your fault. if your thinking your guilty of something, your not.
like i said earlier, hes lucky to have you there, no matter what the outcome.
im hoping for the best for you and your friend.
on edit: im sorry if this is an uncomfortable subject for you. i will stop if you ask me to. im just trying to help.

36. What part of Texas are you in? |
|
If you're in the DFW area you can call the suicide hotline and they have trained people who will intervene and get your friend to a hospital. If he has insurance he'll be taken to an approved hospital. If he has no insurance he'll be covered under insurance provided by Dallas.
If you're not in DFW go ahead and call the suicide hotline anyway because there will be help available of some sort. I know because I've walked in your friends shoes.

my profile is a parody of house of 1000 corpses. I will try to call a hotline in my area. He is still alive and seems better today and has told me he is not going to buy the vicodin. I plan on calling my doctor in 1 hour to see what suggestions she has as well. your concern touches me. thank you

You're right. Being economically disadvanged and intelligent can create a lot of problems. Add in Depression and it's a dangerous mix. (I know this from personal experience.)
I hope he can hang on and give it one more try. It sounds like you're doing what you can. I'm sending vibes of strength your way.

27. I think, my opinion, you are correct in assessing |
|
that people who see too much of the world and have limited means to effect it, have pain.
Sometimes people you love just wear shit-smeared glasses. Maybe you can help someone, and maybe you can't. If your friend is determined to harm himself, please don't punish yourself for that.
Do what you can. No one could ask for more. Please take care of yourself.

9. It's all just one, long adventure story |
|
Lives, that is. This week is just a paragraph on page 46. It will pass and more awaits beyond.
Personally, I fight pessimism with everything I have. I hate it even though I can be prone to to on occasion. I've seen it destroy people both personally and professionally. Politically, I remain a tad cynical (in the sense of a realist), but not beyond hope. In fact, hope is sometimes the best motivator.

13. The universe is expanding at an ever increaing rate. |
|
All the stars are getting further and further apart. Star forming regions are getting less and less dense. In time things will be so far apart that no new stars will form, and ergo no new planets and no lifeforms to inhabit said planets. All the stars that exist today and will exist will die. The last of the white dwarfs will burn out like an old flourescent lightbulb, yet they will be so far from their nearest neighbors that nobody will be able to see it. Even the supermassive blackholes which gobbled stars by the million fold will eventually evaporate due to Hawking radiation. And eventually the universe will be nothing but cold, lonely atoms forever speeding away from each other. Forever.
So quit bitching about politics.
