Kill Bill Vol.1 - just saw it
Ok, I'm behind a lot of people, but I finally got to see Kill Bill part 1. Tarantino is a freaking genious! This is one amazing movie, from any point, acting, directing, music (anyone know if there's a soundtrack out for this?). I trully enjoyed it, he didn't disappoint. I enjoy all of his movies, and since Jackie Brown I've been anticipating a new movie from Tarantino.

And did I mention Uma Thurman is hot?

1. Heeeeey. Just saw Vol. 2.
I'm a little scarred for life. But yeah, interesting is the only word that comes to mind. And Kick-Ass Uma? :)

2. I was less than impressed.
I finally saw it early this week too. It wasn't as good as it should have been, and considering my low expectations that is saying something.

Just my opinion.

I have heard that Vol. 2 is supposed to be better.

3. Well, it's not for everybody.
And if you didn't like Vol. 1, you probably won't like Vol. 2, either.

6. It was a weird double feature
I also saw "Matrix Revolutions" and was less than impressed with it as well. I liked the first two movies.

8. Revolutions was much better than Reloaded IMO
But the first one was a masterpeice compared to the sequels.

9. Not sure if I want to see M2&3 now
the first one was so good. Is it worth it?

11. Nope
I watched the first one again on Sunday, simply amazing and it made mem wonder whether we really needed the sequels.

Unless you are a into CG effects and have a great home audio/video setup I would skip Reloaded and Revolutions.

16. Definately didn't "need" the sequals.
But there was also a lot of promise in what could have been. It was worth the risk, IMHO, but in the end I think they kinda wimped on the last one.

You will probably like "Reloaded" and you might as well finish the series with "Revolutions".

There is a nice high energy dance scene in "Reloaded" which is very Pagan'esque. Kinda a mix of rave and drumming circle. I liked it. Prolly cuz I'm a tree-hugging Pagan. :)

10. Defiantely Matrix was the best of the three...
...but revolutions seemed to be better paced, more coherient and uniform, and frankly a better storyline. It was also more in line with the first movie in it's attention to spirituality and the use of multiple philosophies and mythologies to bring depth to the storyline.

15. Occassionally even my posts are...

..."more coherient and uniform". :)

The whole spirituality and battle of "humanity vs. the Machine" was also a big piece or the original Star Wars triology. Something I learned to appreciate later in life. Just like "Revolutions" though it is something that wasn't as well addressed in the later (earlier?) episodes and it really became all ships, guns, and fights. Most unfortunate in my opinion.

<on edit>

THough the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Yoda" scene was kick ass.

12. I think that Revolutions didn't fit what people expected,
And they were then disappointed... If you look at the Wachowski (sp?) brothers, they're pretty heavy into philosophy, etc. Revolutions addressed a lot of that sort of stuff, alternate resolutions, etc., and not so much an all-muscle solution, and I think a lot of people were let down by that. Thoughts?

4. Was surprised I like Vol I
It was tres fun. B-) And I'm not normally a fan of martial arts movies, most especially the ones that Kill Bill is an homage to. 'Course I did like those two twin girls in the James Bond movie . :-)

And yeah, the soundtrack is kiss ass! Wu-Tang Clan, baby!

5. The brilliance of Volume 2 versus 1 is
that they're two entirely different movies, but that doesn't wreck the premise, it enhances it. Think Alien and Aliens--same storyline, but one is slow and creepy, the other is balls-to-the-wall. QT does this with Bill, but in reverse. Vol 2 is actually a much quieter, character-driven movie, filling in the blanks with this enigmatic Bride, telling us her backstory, as well as fleshing out Bill.

Vol 1 is ChopSocky-inspired, Vol 2 is pure Sergio Leone (with acknowledgement to the fact that Leone was reheated Kurosawa). That shift in tone and pace from the Crazy 88's showdown to the more austere, serene fight with Lucy Liu in Vol 1? Well, that tonal change carries over into most of Vol 2 (though there is lots of action, to be sure).

7. Now see.
I liked most of teh fight scene with Lucy. Particualrly the apology scene. Very "samurai'esque'. Particularly when Uma accepted the apology with no fuss. Very cool.

17. I usually don't like violent movies
but Kill Bill was strangely compelling in an off-beat/martial sort of way. I do tai-chi and am learning sword form, so it was interesting to see the sword stuff. Bloody, comic-booky, and silly, esp. Shonen Knife in the background of the restaurant pre-blood-bath. (well one of many blood-baths.) That was them right? It sure looked like them.

Oddly enough, I never really appreciated Tarantino, but his odd world view is compelling. I want to see vol. 2.

18. I liked it.
What really sticks in my head is Nancy Sinatra's rendition of "Bang Bang" while the camera (In B/W) rotated around "The Bride". It's quite chilling when taken into context. I may be wrong on the placement of the images, I can't recall exactly where in the movie it took place. My daughter insists it was in the opening credits, I thought it was after...

But it was a pretty good movie all in all. The phony blood sprays, etc, were all too unbelievable--and I believe designed to be such. You really couldn't get too upset over them. Just a typical "let's make it really gory, but make sure it looks fake" production.
