7. The Guilty
I may catch hell for this but your list of "The Guilty" is woefully inadequite.

Some would add the gun manufacturers (I don't)
Some would add the parents
Some would add the school personel
Some would add the school system for failing to recognize these troubled teens
Some would add our society of bullies, stereotypes and machismo

My heart goes out to the famalies of the dead and wounded and to the famalies of Eric and Dylan. May they ALL find some peace and may we ALL learn from this tragedy.

8. My list is limited to people who died.
And I believe I included their survivors, as well.

9. Your list of the GUILTY
is woefully inadequet or did you not get that from my post? No wait, from the misguided defensiveness and lack of reading comprehension I would have to say you didn't read my post at all.

Go figure.

10. I read your post.
You are the one with a reading comprehension problem.

On April 20, 1999, only two guilty people died. My lists of both the Innocent Victims and The Guilty are limited to people who died on April 20, 1999.

I am appalled that you would attempt to hijack a remembrance thread.

16. Then this just won't be a good thread for you
Yes, "The Guilty" were guilty of the murder of 13 fellow humans, most of them likely innocent, and certainly none of them guilty of anything deserving death.

But, to divvy up the list the way that you did in the initial post is going to get you some static.

For instance, 'How do you know that no one on your list of "Innocent Victims" is in any way responsible for the slow death of the soul by repeated verbal battering that made possible this horror?"

I have trouble believing that with your level of participation that you wouldn't know that DU is something of a haven for the outsider; and that using loaded phrases, 'The Innocent Victims', 'The Guilty' would stir up all sorts of bad feeling.

Had you posted something like:

>The Victims:
>
> Cassie Bernall
> Steve Curnow
> Corey DePooter
> Kelly Fleming
> Matthew Kechter
> Daniel Mauser
> Daniel Rohrbough
> Rachel Scott
> Isaiah Shoels
> John Tomlin
> Lauren Townsend
> Kyle Velasquez
> Dave Sanders
> Eric Harris
> Dylan Klebold
>
>
>May their survivors all know peace.

I do not think you would have gotten so much reaction.

Please, if you have the time I recommend to you

and

And now I must go dry my eyes and clean my face, for lunch is over and it just wouldn't do for the telephone guy to look like he's been crying.

PS: thank goodness I have spellcheck to clean this up so it can be read

23. "the outsider" ???
DU is a haven for the outsider?

You really count mass murderers as outsiders? Wow.

A simple question. Please answer with a number.

Given that, by any objective measure, my life has been harder than either Eric Harris's or Dylan Klebold's (I grew up in poverty, was sexually and physically abused at home, was emotionally, verbally, and physically bullied at school, did not enjoy any of the advantages that they did -- I had illiterate parents; theirs were college graduates, etc., etc., etc....)

How many murders must I commit before you would not consider me a victim? They committed, together, 13 murders and dozens of malicious woundings.

How many can I commit and still be a victim in your eyes?

24. Since you insist on a number 100,000,000,000
But the real answer is: The number doesn't matter.

Congratulations on surviving the awfulness in your history, your strength is amazing.

not everyone survives. Whatever it was that got you through it, a support, an outlet, strength of character, faith, resilient brain chemistry, whatever it was some don't have it.

of those who do not, most implode. Quietly abandoning life or sanity, they don't make the national news.

....Its really quite late, and I'm not going to change your mind. I'm sorry if this branch of the thread made anyone unhappy or uncomfortable.

25. It Isn't About You
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 03:53 AM by REP
That the two murderers had been tormented for years by their peers doesn't make them less guilty; it just makes them the victims of a kind of abuse that is still condoned ("boys will be boys" "I had it worse and I didn't kill anyone"). Acknowledging that they had been victims of abuse doesn't make it okay that they killed a lot of people. Understanding that that kind of abuse is abuse and stopping it may save lives.

What they did was horrible. What had been done to them was abuse.

By the way - the college-educated and the illiterate can both make excellent or awful parents. Don't assume education makes everything okey dokey.

18. April 19 and 20
are two days when hatred reigned. April 19, 1995 is a day I will never forget. A truck bomb destroyed the federal building in Oklahoma City and 168 innocent people were killed.

The agency I work for lost two people; I knew them both, and I still grieve for the loss.

Timothy McVeigh's hatred of the federal government was so deep he was unable to see the humanity in that building. There are people who hate gay folks, liberals, people of color, religious minorites . . . the list goes on and on . . . as much as Timothy McVeigh hated the federal government, and we must not forget that.

We must never forget the utter senselessness of the violent acts committed on April 19 and 20. We must never forget the victims.

Steve Curry and Mike Loudenslager, you are not forgotten. You will be forever in my heart.
