1. No daughters...but I am...
somtimes into that look. Unfortunately I had to take out my belly-button ring...it was starting to migrate out. As soon as it heals up and I have the cash I'm gonna get it re-pierced. :)

5. No kidding - me too
Although I've had my naval piercing for 12 years... and I only wear lowriders (used to buy men's pants when women's all came up to your boobs!) because they're more comfortable - BUT, I'm definitely not wearing little half shirts showing it all off, like I think the original poster had in mind...*L*

7. I would wear...
the little half shirt to show it off...but it would take the right incentive. He'd have to be up for the tight leather pants with the butt cut out.

Hey Ken...you game baby? ;)

3. My daughter does that
and it's a bit distressing to her ol' man. And you can't touch her, or I may have to do an Al Bundy on you. Seriously, she has a male friend who's a good kid, or young man.

10. They do have that tendency...
Even if you take really good care of it they get infected sometimes because of the location. The way your clothes rub against it doesn't help matters either.

I loved mine though and was very sad to have to take it out. I can't wait til it's healed up and I can re-pierce it.

11. Does it hurt? How long does it take to heal after the piercing?
I've been debating on getting one. I'm of the mind that if I want one a year for now, then I may get it. Do you know of any good info sites, since I don't know too many people with navel piercings.

12. I wouldn't say it hurt...

but then I'm kinda into the adrenalin rush that comes from pain.

Belly-button piercings take forever to heal...at least 6 months usually. It's because of the location. You have to bend at the waist all the time and that slows down the healing. So does having it rub against your clothes all the time. Belly-button rings also have a tendency to migrate because of those two factors. I ended up taking mine out after about 9 months because it had migrated so bad (I lost quite a bit of weight after I had it done and that didn't help matters). I'm gonna have it redone eventually after I finish losing weight and after the original hole completely heals...but I'm having it pierced much deeped next time.

I do have to say that despite the fact that my piercing didn't work out the first time...I loved it. It looked really cool. :)

If you want to read all about it I suggest http://www.bmezine.com

on edit: when I say it takes 6 months to heal I don't mean it takes it that long to look good. I had a little bruising for about a week after the piercing and after that it usually looked ok from the top. The problem was inside my bellybutton where it took a while for the hole to heal up nicely. I also had issues with the ball on the end of the barbell getting squished into the hole. Yuck. What really takes 6 months is healing enough that you can leave the jewelry out for any length of time without the hole closing right back up.

14. It hurts only for a second -
I got mine done 12 years ago, but I can't imagine things have changed much.

In my situation, they disinfected the area, then grabbed some clamps (they look kinda like a small version of the silver kitchen tongs) and clamped them down on the area they were getting ready to pierce. That kinda hurt - it pinches. I think the pinching numbed the area up a bit, then they take a fat, hollow needle and push it thru the open area in the middle of the clamps. They do it quite fast - so while you have an initial OWOWOWOW! moment, it's over as soon as they let go of the needle.

When I got mine done they didn't have all the barbell stuff going on like they do now, and they definitely didn't have all the dangly rhinestone stuff I've seen around lately. I have a simple stainless steel ring, with a stone bead that fits between the ends of the ring and completes the circle. I swap out beads from time to time.

As for infections, I don't believe they are very common, if you go to a reputable source. I rented a room from a lady 9 years ago that had a 15 y/o daughter she took to get pierced by some crankhead friend of hers. Hers ended up getting infected, so I took her to my guy and he took care of her. Hers was real messed up...

I've never worn a barbell, or anything other than my ring - so I don't know if the barbells are more irritating or not - but one thing I liked about the ring is that it will lay flat.

I dunno - I've had mine so long I forget I have it anymore. At the same time, I've had it so long, I think I'd feel weird without it.

It's not that big of a deal, far less of an ordeal than a tattoo. If you want to do it, go for it! :)

15. Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better.
I need to think about it a bit more, and then I'll decide. I really appreciate the response. :hi:
