Just found out I'm moving to Houston. So glad, can't wait to get out of |
|
New Orleans. Move is slated on 1 June.

4. You'll miss NO soon enough! |
|
The water smells as bad, the humidity is almost as bad, and the politics is nastier. And the food sucks. Not a bad place, but not an improvement over NO.
Enjoy the move, though! :-)
If you can, move into Sugarland, and vote against Tom Delay.

5. Trust me it will be an improvement for me. I will more then likely be in |
|
Sugarland or near there because my wife's company is around that location. Too bad for Tom he will never get my vote for anything.

I love that area. I'm in Austin, but I drive out that way a lot, especially towards Victoria and Sugarland. There isn't much to do in the city that you can't do in any other city (though the butterfly garden is fun), but it's a nice area, and the people are great, as long as you don't talk politics.
My parents are from New Orleans, and I grew up in Gulfport, so I love the place.

8. Doubt the humidity will bother somebody from NO! |
|
And Louisiana politics aren't for the weak of stomach, either.
While Houston food is not as famous as New Orleans, there's quite a bit of good stuff available.
Of course, I live "inside the Loop". Dwellers in far suburbia will have different views of the city.

But moved about 15 years ago. I don't miss it, sorry to say. It's humid, humid, humid (but you are probably used to it, being in NO!) the traffic totally sux and it's growth overtook reality years ago. But, I've not been back since my Dad died 6 years ago, I am sure a lot has changed. I know they have rail now, a beautiful new football stadium, etc etc. I disagree, however, on the food. I always loved the food in Houston - some damn fine restaurants! And I did live in DeLay's district and always voted against him - - it's the dittoheads there that keep returning him to office.
Good luck. Hope you find a nice neighborhood in which to live - there are many of them!
