For those joining the DU Delegation in Washington DC: PLEASE READ
I've spoken to the folks organizing the march and this is the best information I have to date:

First, Democratic Underground is an official Delegation for the March for Choice. We have an offical banner (actually I Ramsey has it since I had it shipped to her house) and we will have a spot to organize on the National Mall.

Eventually, but not at this point, there will be some sort of map of how all the delegations will be organized on the National Mall. Even though we are NOT all arriving together on a bus (they are aware we are a delegation formed from folks online), you need only locate a volunteer, tell them your organization and they will point you to where I'll be hanging out at holding my banner. HOWEVER, when I find out that information earlier, I will share it with you ahead of time.

This is going to amusing to see if this all works out but we REALLY need to have 20 folks show up so we are truly a delegation (less than 20 do not get a spot on the lawn or in the parade).

Please do not fail me. I'm leaving 6:30 am from Wilmington in order to get to DC on time (it's a 2 hour trip).

PM me if you need more information!!!

Thank you.

PS: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! If you are a member of the DU Delegation, please, if possible, wear a DU tee-shirt or heck, put a DU Bumpersticker on a tee-shirt. Thanks!!

9. PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT FOR MORE DETAILS
http://www.marchforwomen.org/content/index.php?pid=89#whenwhere

I think the first 2 questions will best answer 99% of the PM's that were sent to me:

When and where is the March?

The March for Women’s Lives will take place Sunday, April 25th, 2004. Assembly is at 10am on the National Mall between 3rd and 14th Sts (between the Smithsonian Museums). There will be a morning program of speakers and entertainment. After the actual March, there will be another rally with speakers and performers in the afternoon, ending by about 5pm.

Where do I go the Morning of the March?
Assembly is at 10am on the National Mall between 3rd and 14th Sts (between the Smithsonian Museums). If you have registered your delegation with the March Office, you will have a pre-determined assembly point on the Mall. If you have not done so already, register your delegation online by visiting http://www.marchforwomen.org and clicking "Form a Delegation."

The perimeter of the Mall will be lined by clearly-identified volunteers who will direct delegation members to their “official” assembly point on the Mall. Please do NOT arrange a meeting place beforehand for your delegation. Directing everyone to the Mall will save time and minimize confusion so that your group can enjoy the morning program before the March actually steps off at 12 noon.

When I find out the location for DU's delegation on the mall I will post it here at DU.

BTW, I've sent many of you my cell phone number: PLEASE DO NOT CALL ME DURING MY WORKING HOURS!!!!! (no one has yet, but just getting that out of the way). You are welcomed to call me in the evening to get more information, but at this time I have none!!!

25. Hi.
I'm pretty much okay, but as I get bigger with the baby, it's getting more painful to walk. I haven't been pain-free since the accident, but I was having a lot of good days. But lately, by the end of the day I'm limping pretty bad, so I just have to try to take it easy. When I'm not working, I mostly just rest.

Thanks for asking.

Sorry you can't go either. I bet DUers will take a lot of pictures.

32. Not sure what to wear to the March? Check out your local Planned Parent.
I was hoping to get my new DU teeshirt for the march, but I think I ordered it too late.

Low and behold, my local Planned Parenthood here in Delaware have T-shirts for the March for sale for $5. And they are a nice cotton shirt with that are Purple (the march's colors).

I'm sure many PP across the country also have shirts for sale. Check them out and help out a good cause!!

38. The March Starts At 3rd Street, NW
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 12:10 PM by kpharmer
and the GW Metro station is at 23rd Street, NW. That's a pretty long hike, Kleeb.

Edited to add:

The Federal Center, SW Metro station is at 3rd and D Streets, SW, and is only about 3 blocks from where the march begins. The L'Enfant Plaza Metro station has an entrance at 7th and Maryland, SW, and is only about 4 blocks from where the march begins.

The Smithsonian Metro station is on the National Mall, but it is much farther than the other two stations. If you're going to take mass transit, I suggest Federal Center, SW or L'Enfant Plaza. These two stations are on the orange and blue lines.
