Pottery Barn cries foul about Powell quote
Bob Woodward's new blockbuster about the war in Iraq is predictably making trouble for President Bush and his national security team.
But "Plan of Attack" has also provoked shrieks of pain from an unexpected source - the good people at Pottery Barn.

Yesterday a corporate spokeswoman for the home-furnishings emporium, Leigh Oshirak, launched a policy war against Secretary of State Colin Powell over his enunciation (in Woodward's book) of "The Pottery Barn rule."

"You are going to be the proud owner of 25 million people. You will own all their hopes, aspirations and problems. You'll own it all," Woodward quotes Powell as warning Bush about the consequences of invading Iraq. "Privately, Powell and Armitage called this the Pottery Barn rule: You break it, you own it."

Seems like that oughta be called the "slave trade rule."

2. Al Franken called Pottery Barn yesterday
apparently "you break it, you bought it" is not a company policy.

3. Should have said the Bull in a China Shop rule
no problem with Pottery Barn and ever so much more accurate. Of course the Pretendident, the once and future CEO of Halliburton, and the rest of the PNAC crew wouldn't have been too thrilled, but then, how much did would they like the Pottery Barn analogy?
