What are the best Video Games of all time?
NOTE: I know lots of you will be tempted to vote for the latest hit game on out there... but think about the past, about what games broke new ground and have retained a loyal following...

In no particular order:

-Super Mario Bros. 3

-Outrun (This game is still head and shoulders above a lot of other racing games out there...)

-Metal Gear (1988, NES)

-Street Fighter II

-Double Dragon (The original arcade version... this was the game people waited in long lines to play, long before the years of Street Fighter II and its clones...)

-Ms. Pac Man (Sorry... Pac Man came first, but this one was better...)

-The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

-Excitebike

-Hang On

There are plenty more worthy of recognition... these are the only ones that come to mind right now...

1. Though I'm no fan of it, that Dance Dance Revolution nonsense is very
popular. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is the best of the modern Role Playing Games, and Madden ANYTHING is the best sports game.

Riven, the sequel to Myst, is the best computer game ever.

4. Colin McRae Rally 2
Just freaking awesome. The game I've played more than any other. My friend and I fabricated an old racing bucket seat and a bunch of tubular steel into a wonderful frame to hold the steering wheel and pedals. this absolutely transformed the experience. CM3 sucked but CM4 is better, but nothing beats the amount of time we spent with our friends drunk and stoned trying to beat each others time on CM2.

30. This list is actually very accurate
But notice how newer games are exempt. Maybe it's because you don't play video games as much as you did when these games came out.

I prefer to see it as proof that, despite much improved graphics, the gameplay of today's video games just aren't what they were.

25. Of your list I'll disagree with...
Super Mario 3. It wasn't all that fun and it broke no new ground. Replace it with Super Mario Bros. (1) and I'll agree with you.

Metal Gear (NES) was OK, but Metal Gear Solid broke all the ground modern gaming is based upon.

Agree with Ms. Pac Man, it was a great improvement with programming compared to the original. But you need to really appreciate the media to notice.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past (that was SNES, right?) that was an upjumped clone of the original. The original broke ground. So did Ocarina of Time, which you should include.

28. System Shock 2...
really creepy and hard.

- Neverwinter Nights: Great adaptation of 3rd Ed D&D rules. Not nearly as hack and slash as Diablo.

- Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: I noticed some folks listed Civ II and III. I think this is better. Warring factions in the far future on a distant planet. I like not having to build my faction from primitive cultures.

- Battlefield 1942: Best multiplayer FPS there is. I have had this game for almost 2 years now and it has been a permanent fixture on my hard drive. No other game can claim that. Great online community.

31. The golden age of video games are over
I haven't played a good video game in a long time. Occasionally, I'll rent one from Blockbuster. Dissapointment always follows.

Video games hit their peak in about 1993 or so. They've been heading downhill ever since. The graphics might be 10 times better but the gameplay has gone to hell.
