When did West Wing become a Republican White House?
I can't believe the garbage I'm hearing.

Free trade is important because we have like 90% (I'm guessing about that number. It was large.) of the world's wealth, but only 2% of the world's customers. Sounds convincing till you recall that 99% of that wealth is in the hands of 1% of the population.

I used to LOVE West Wing. My heart is breaking.

2. after Aaron Sorkin left
and I can't decide how sincere the writers are about it. Maybe they're playing devils advocate for some reason.

I guess they had to change, finally, because the US changed.

It Hurts. I can't watch it anymore.

5. Yep...Sorkin and Schlamme...
It's become far more 'soap-operaish'. And Toby Ziegler has become farther right. Damn shame, it was a great show. I still watch, though. And I enjoy the reruns...

3. I thought it was just me. This used to be my favorite show
Now it is a GOP shill. It is amazing how much I do not like these characters now that they support such awful beliefs.

8. Yep, too true.
But the writing on The West Wing has been taking a disconcerting consistent rightward turn since Sorkin and Schlamme left the show. I know they both said they were leaving because of the ubiquitous "artistic differences." I'm given to wonder now if those differences were that they were asked to spin the show more toward the conservative end of the metre.

14. Could be. I will admit that I haven't watched lately myself.
I feel the writing has suffered since Sorkin left. It's just not as good a show.

10. *Spoiler for those who haven't seen the latest season screening in the US*

The new executive producers became sensitive to the fact that it was considered too left wing and subsequently introduced characters and perspectives to make the show more inclusive of RW views. I stopped watching after the North Korea episode -I think the third or fourth in the new season. It became evident that they were changing for the worse. They hired that conservative commentator (I think it was John Podhoretz) to join the show as a senior consultant or adviser

12. I don't mind the presentation of opposing views, BUT
I hate hearing them spouted by the characters I love.

I loathed Leo tonight.

11. this is the first episode that made me feel dirty
rationalizing off shore outsourcing

rationalizing big media mergers

and this from a democratic administration, a fictional one, at that. they could at least be true to the democratic ideals.

instead it is the rich get richer, and it's always been like that, so who cares.

i felt like i needed a shower.

i swore off nbc immediately after jack welch insisted they call the election for bush. fox news (run by a bush relative) immediately followed. from there it was a bandwagon.

i only watched west wing, whoopie and will and grace. now it's just whoopie and will and grace.

13. Sigh
Ever since Sorkin left, the show has been badly written and the characters seem to espouse some right wing ideas. The attitudes of the characters toward the people who were going to lose their tech jobs was, "Oh well...sorry about that." It sounded more like something that would come out of the current adminstration than the formerly idealistic Bartlet admin.

I've been plowing through the 1st season DVD (and season 2 comes out next month) and watching the reruns on Bravo and it was so much better. And unashamed to be liberal. Now it seems like the writers think liberal is a dirty word.
