Last night's show was complete GOP Propaganda and I'm sick of it. They were even so bold as to admit it. When Josh met with the Republican Speaker the Republican said he was pleased as punch with the Administration and that he would get all of the Republicans to support them. They kept repeating the exact same sound bites as this current administration. Outsourcing is good. In the long run more jobs will be created. I don't buy into that. I think we need to create more jobs here and now and let the corporations sacrifice a little. We are at war after all so they say. Let those who can most afford to sacrifice do so for the good of the country. I will watch no more and it saddens me because it used to be so very very good. I used to get tears in my eyes after almost every show. Now I just feel anger.

1. I stopped watching on a regular basis months ago |
|
when it started looking like a soap opera. And I used to really enjoy it. Never missed it, taped it in fact. Now it is just too lame to bother with.

3. The West Wing has gone downhill |
|
now that Sorkin is gone. More right wing ideas seem to be filtering in. I hate how they had almost nothing to offer the tech workers who were losing their jobs -- just a shrug and an "oh well." I can't see Sorkin's Bartlet so freely endorsing Schumpeter and not appearing to give a crap about the displaced workers.
I guess I just expect better from them. I'll probably still watch, but it's definitely jumped the shark.

Plus, last night's show set up several "arcs" for the next few weeks; one of which will be Josh's fight for the unemployed tech workers.
The West Wing's GOPers usually come off as being creepy, and that hasn't changed one bit.
Relax. It's just a TV show. There are probably many emotionally-pleasing episodes yet to come.

6. creative destruction isnt really a bad thing in itself. |
|
I mean it sucks to lose your job, but the point on the show was right enough - it does promote the competency of the US to expand into new areas.
The problems with the way bushco is doing it: - they are NOT advocating free trade, they are strongarming countries into accepting US goods while loading up on tariffs on the other end (this does protect US jobs but prevents the main benefits from the creative destruction of outsourcing from occurring)
- They continue to support dieing industry in the US with unrealistic subsidies ie farm subsidies - get rid of those and other developing countries can actually compete on their core agricultural competency this allows for a greater standard of living outside of the US and a greater ability to buy our goods and creates more jobs here. (prices do go up but that isnt a bad thing, oil SHOULD cost more - incentivize alternative fuels development and reducing consumption)
- They protect US corporations from taxes by allowing them to defer while hiding overseas.
while advocating free trade is fine, creating conditions where the benefit to middle class workers that SHOULD be coming from the outsourcing in the long run are simply not occuring is nuts. This is what the bush administration are doing wrong.
On social issues I am far far left, on fiscal issues I am a conservative advocate of free market economics - bush pisses me off on both fronts. Obviously he has problems on all social issues. On economics bush is not conservative, he is not liberal either his goals lie elsewhere - with the creation of wealth for a few people (himself and his cronies) he could make an arguement for helping the economy if his fiscal policies were left or right but they are neither - they are just nuts.
