Perfect gift? : Last part of [forged ] Hitler diaries on sale
BERLIN (Reuters) - A final, unseen volume of the forged diaries of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler which fooled the world in 1983 is to go on sale in Berlin at a starting price of 5,000 euros (3.350 pounds), the auctioneers say.

Forger, painter and military antiques dealer Konrad Kujau, who died in 2000, copied Hitler's handwriting and sold 60 volumes of the diary to Stern magazine for about $5 million.
...
In 1983, Stern thought it had landed the biggest scoop in publishing history after reporter Gerd Heidemann obtained the bulk of the diaries. Kujau claimed he had located them in Communist East Germany and could smuggle them into West Germany.
...
"The scale of the documents found justifies the conclusion: The history of the Third Reich must be rewritten in part," Peter Koch, then Stern's editor, wrote -- but soon afterwards tests uncovered it as a fake.
