I'm an OSU alum, but Clarett and his "me first" attitude has rubbed me the wrong way for quite some time.
Silly me, but I still harbor this absurb notion that maybe a college education might be a good idea - I mean, as long as you're in the area and everything.
Mr. Clarett - Montreal Alouettes calling on line 2...

2. how about being able to be compensated for making your college |
|
A truckload of money.
These colleges take in millions upon millions in everything from ticket sales to tv revenue to merchandise.
But the players themselves can't even take a job at McDonalds while they're on the team.
It's not fair and it's not right and until the NCAA starts compensating these athletes then they're going to jump to the pros as soon as they can.
As well they should.

3. How about a free ride.... |

To go to a school that most would not be able to afford (and some could not get into without sports?
"It's not fair and it's not right and until the NCAA starts compensating these athletes then they're going to jump to the pros as soon as they can."
And the rules that they player's union and the league has in place is 3 years out of High School.
He burned his bridges at school.
I feel bad for him.
Even if he had gotten in, he could have blown out his knee day 1 of training camp.
Lots of teams are shying away from the "me first" athlete, so he may have burned some in the NFL too.
just my 2 cents.

4. i don't feel the least bit sorry for him.. |
|
he made his own bed when he lied to the police and the AD. To top it all off, dude couldn't even make the combine because he was so out of shape. What had he been doing for all those weeks? This guy is serious trouble. One thing I am sorry for, and that's not being able to see guys like R. Harrison tee off on this piece of crap.

6. Sorry - not buying that one |

Many of these athletes look at the school they choose to "attend" as nothing more than a training ground for the NFL, NBA, etc. I can not and will not feel sorry for those who are not there for the education, but rather for the "minor league" component of their professional careers.
There are thousands upon thousands of athletes performing in college athletics far from the mainstream eye, and they mange to blend the education/sports components together quite well.
The colleges earning money portion of your argument is quite valid, but the answer does not lie in the paying of athletes. Do the members of the swim team get money too? The softball team? All these athletes perform to the best of their abilities, and all perform with the same desire. To single out only those who make money for their schools is unfair.

9. You know who got screwed |
|
Was the Williams kid. He hired an agent so he can't go back to USC to play ball without the NCAA giving him a waiver.
Evidently Clarett could go back to college (if somebody would have him).
